Photo Booklet

my first booklet / Pixi
my first booklet / Pixi
On Tuesday i decided it's about time to see if/how my digital pictures work as prints. So i downloaded the highly recommended software from Cewe (www.cewe-fotobuch.de, in German language). Found it easy to use, spent about an hour to select and arrange the pictures, placed the order, and, TA TA, had the booklet in the mail today. As none of the pictures had been printed before, it felt really nice to see them on paper! Okay, the colors could be brighter and better paper wouldn't do any harm either, but for a first timer this floppy little thing makes me quite happy. Will check out Blurb next....

I would be very interested in your experiences with these instant print books. It is nice to see your work in print, it just feels so different.

If you feel like dealing with an Australian company, take a look at www.momento.com.au. I had a book printed early this year and I am very happy with it. I am currently preparing a wedding album for my son and new daughter-in-law. They aren't cheap, but the quality is very good.

Will try various providers and formats in the coming weeks and then review the service and the quality of printing and binding.

Having a book done in Australia sounds cool. And a whole lot better than let's say ordering oil painted versions of one's pictures from China; which is a bit hard to imagine, but people are really doing that ... Anyhow, there are definitely worse aspects of a globalized economy ;-]

Yesterday's prints were surprising. While the paper and black background made some of the pictures look strangely flat (and much more boring than their digital version) others really came to life. Must learn more about color calibration and resolution. Just hope that preparing prints won't become a new addiction! Not that i'm worried about the money. After all, these books are cheaper than decent wines and other drugs. It's just that spending even more time in front of a computer screen doesn't sound like a healthy idea...

I tested myphotobook twice and liked the results - but as i see, in the test (stiftung warentest) they were last and cewe/schlecker was first .
