Tamron Di-II SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR LD Aspherical (IF)

So I got a new lens for my D80 after a while. I figured out that it's time to get a good low light zoom. The Nikon 17-55 would be the original alternative, but it's more than I want to spend and it's also big and heavy. I bought the version with the AF-motor, but that really means nothing. AF performance is nothing to write home about. It is slow, noisy and sometimes behaves wrong. I find Sigma's AF and HSM generally better. Since I don't own a single Nikon AF-S lens I can't say anything about that. I like however the size of this lens and the weight and of course the price: At less than 400€ it's a good choice. Resolution is also very good from 2.8 onwards.
