Religious Background

Whatever I think about religion or how I regard it, its influence and the identity it provides is visible every now and then. Not that I'd have any intention, but the holy couple like portraits recently and the marriage of my chef were two recent events that reminded me of that.

Marriage especially is one hot-topic. I think many of the current christians stay with the church because of that exactly and for many the ritual at the registry office remains just a bureaucratic act while the celebration takes place under the hood of religion and tradition.

I haven't yet decided my stance with the church, I'm still a member, but not practicing and opposed to the ways dictated by the group, not in a general sense, but in the details. I do think the principle of helping others before yourself are honorable acts and that generally you should try to love and not hate, but in the very specific interpretation I can't agree and especially not with the politics, but okay, that's probably what everyone says

Interesting photos from my contacts #2

Today I picked again some interesting pictures from my contacts here on ipernity.

This one is a good shot of a daily routine situation and I like it for that reason. The lights also confront the viewer and you feel that there's something coming towards you.

Normally I don't like macros too much, but this shot is nice because of the background. I really like the negative space and together with the ship it suggests a journey or the target of it.

A white cow in position of a "belling deer" but eating from a conifer tree. Framed a bit lower and it would have been perfect!

A great tryptich of a photographed mass. Good work!

Green his Apple

Interesting photos from my contacts #3

I post this earlier than I wanted to as I am probably not online over the weekend and because I've already found a number of good pictures that I think are worthy to mention.

This picture is from Roberto Ballerini. It's very funny because the whole thing is cut off and in the middle there's almost nothing while the borders seem to continue over at the other side, mainly with the relationship between the face on the right and the head-cut biker on the left. There's also a nice shadowplay along a mirror axis, well many elements that create a working harmony for me. I also like the monotone.

Another good one from mrs.becca! Playing around and creating ideas is what I'm looking for in pictures and here a Lego man and a fruit create a birth like scene. And its ewwwww whatever is that on his helmet. Simple and effective!

A very good shot by tom.k! All of his pictures from africa are very well worth seeing (enjoy the slideshow). I liked this one best because of the silhouette look of the elephant creating an iconic element in the picture. I think it shows a very strong symbol here of movement, power and of nature. Well done!

Nice shot by rob_visual! He makes very good use of perspective here picturing a backyard of a group of houses that appear to be grouped like humans talking to each other. I also like the blue sky, that it seems darker than the shadow and the rather simply coloured rest. Maybe I'm also astounished by this shot because I've never thought to capture a backalley like this. Good work!

The slideshows on ipernity are WOW!

I like watching them more and more, there's a link on everyone's doc page to view the pictures as a slideshow and it will also play music if there was one uploaded.

Check out twelvetwentynine's slideshow or Elsa's slideshow for example.

Interesting photos from my contacts #4

Another time to summarize some of the pictures that I encountered and remembered over the week, time for another posting about some of my contact's interesting pictures. I think this time, it's about identity, what you are and what you are not. What is good and bad and what you should do, what not. All this fuzz that becomes obvious when you have to fill out the "About yourself" textboxes on the internet. :-p

"I was once ... your little girl" is the title of this image. Coming from someone who is possibly working up her relationship with a dominant childhood figure. I like it, because cutting with your parents is quite a step, when you go from child to adult.

What is the identity of a country? The flag? The capitol city or the TV programme everybody is watching? And where do we fit into that identity, if we want to fit at all! That's some question this photo raises for me. Trying to get along with your national identity.

Good and Evil and the signposts on the way from birth to death. The 7 deadly sins are a big topic, but I like that kind of dedication!
