Wedding pictures

Tuesday August 28, 2007 at 09:01AM

Last saturday I went to Düsseldorf to celebrate the wedding of friends. It was a wonderful party, beautiful location at the Rhein river. One thing they forgot (or didn't want) was to hire a professional photographer specialized in wedding photography. So I had the chance to take pictures of the party and the newly-wed couple.I was a stopgap, so I was not prepared. I carried my camera around and took pictures, just for me to learn and improve, but then it got serious...

And I think I did it poorly, I didn't expect that I would run into such a situation and now I know: wedding photography is hard work, really. It takes a lot of courage to handle such a responsibility and take pictures of such an important event in two people's life.

So I take my hat off to all the great wedding photographers out there...

Oh I can imagine that it wasn't easy, I get a nervous feeling when trying to imagine myself in the same kind of situation.. Well, it's of course also because I myself have been taking photos mostly of bugs, animals, plants, things, landscapes... everything except people; but even if you have been taking pictures of people, I guess it's very exciting to take that kind of role, so suddenly - what a HUGE responsibility! But the wedding couple made their decision and you had a learning experience - and who knows, maybe they didn't want so professional-looking wedding pictures but more intimate and non-conventional, taken by someone who knows the couple and people there? Be proud of yourself! And at the same time, all the respect to all the professionals too, it must be hard work.

Thank you Kirsi for these kind words. I see you understand my situation completely. Most of my pictures are landscape pictures or macro shots as well, I never had the heart to take portrait shots, so this was quite a challenge. The couple didn't even see all pictures so I will post their response here if they get the pictures during the next week.
