Going to the dogs

Posted a bunch of vintage dogs yesterday ... if you can't get enough of those furry four-legged fellas (you probably guessed that I can't resist them), well, there's more to come in the next few days. Went to a vintage paper faire today and found vendors with big boxes full of loose snapshots and album pages ... anywhere from a quarter to a buck each. eBay's got too rich for my blood now that I'm retired, so digging through boxes of old photos satisfies my vintage pix fix and keeps me reasonably…
Calling all Flickr refugees!

Calling all Flickr refugees! I hope you've seen that banner at the top of the page and I hope you're voting each day for ipernity. It's hard to imagine Flickr not winning this award, given its size and popularity. But all of us who have made ipernity our home know the dark underside of the Flickr regime. It would be a very nice finger in Flickr's eye if ipernity were to score an upset. So vote ... please!

Hi, all. In anticipation of my taking off on holiday, I've been posting many new vintage photos over the last few days. Hopefully you'll have plenty to explore until I return. Look for new postings around August 25th. Thanks for your warm welcome to ipernity.
Of root canals and marriage licenses

What a week this has been. Started last Friday with intense pain in a back molar. Turned out 30-year-old root canal needed a tune-up. Who knew? I thought these things lasted forever ... or at least as forever as I will last. I got reminded that nothing's worse than tooth pain. Vicodin's been my new best friend. But it seems this might not be the end of the story. Now that everything root canal wise is a good as new, turns out I may have a cracked tooth, which means extraction. Sigh ... But on…
Off to Comic-Con

Heading down to San Diego this evening and will spend Saturday at Comic-Con, probably the biggest comic book/sci fi affair in the country. Read that something like 200,000 visitors will attend over the 4-day event. The cast of Heroes is going to be there tomorrow, so it should be crazed. Camera in hand, I'm hoping for some good shots.
Problems using ipernity's chat ???

I tried to use ipernity's chat and can't figure out how it works. I sent an invite to an online friend. I got the pop-up message saying he had accepted the invite, but there was no chat window. And I couldn't find one looking around site. Can anyone tell me how this works? Thanks.
Got a Pro account now

Well, I hit my upload limit and was forced to make the commitment to ipernity and pay the big bucks for a Pro account. You know, I never heard back from the ipernity folks with answers to my questions. I'm trying not to feel that's an ominous sign. Sure do hope I don't end up dealing with the same issues I ran into with Flickr.
I'm baaaack

July 22, 2008
Hi, there. Back from a great holiday spent driving up the California and Oregon coasts. Then I spent time in and around Portland, one of my favorite cities. But now I'm back to the business of getting more of my vintage photo collection posted. Hope you enjoy my latest photos of soldiers ... bathing, skinny-dipping and generally having a good time.

ipernity's resemblance to Flickr ???

Now that I've been using ipernity for a few days, I'm struck by how similar much of the look, feel, tools and navigation are to Flickr's. For example, ipernity's Doc Manager and Flickr's Organizer are practically the same. The underlying code is clearly based on Flickr's. This has left me very curious about a possible business relationship between ipernity and Flickr. Given that I and others are counting on ipernity's being more open than Flickr to sharing vintage photographs, this resemblance g…
Making the move to ipernity final

Well, I've made the decision to make the move of my vintage photograph collection final. Haven't heard back yet from the ipernity administrators about my questions, but I'm assuming from the Member Guidelines that I won't have any problems posting my vintage photos. The guidelines state: Be the author of any content that you publish (or make sure you own explicitly the dedicated rights to publish it). I've added this statement to my profile: PLEASE NOTE: I am the owner of all of the vinta…
A Flickr refugee

Well, here I am, a Flickr refugee, checking out what I hope might be a more receptive venue for my collection of vintage male photographs. Two days ago I posted this message to my Flickr site: After much thought (and no small amount of agonizing), I have decided to bring three years of sharing my vintage photo collection on Flickr to an end. The anxiety around when (unfortunately, not if) Flickr will delete my photostream is more than I want to deal with any longer. Flickr's increasi…
