September 2007 newsletter featuring "Louise" (Pastel - 44 x 32 cm)

Louise

This is a portrait of the girl I talked about in my last newsletter. Her name is Louise, and I was really happy that she and her parents liked the portrait very much. The feed back is very important for me and makes me very happy. It was a very difficult portrait to do as the delicacy of the skin was very hard to find, but I think I got it. The expression was even harder, but I’m happy with how it came out. Tell me what you think, as I would love to know that.

I’m really sorry that there was such a long break between this newsletter and the last one. Due to personal health problems, I couldn’t do it any sooner. The main thing, is that I shall be painting again, and that all these problems are behind me. I am very motivated now to carry on and will probably exhibit next year. This will be not only my paintings, but my photographs as well. I am trying to organise this, and hopefully, people who live in the area can see the originals.

I’ve been using my macro lens again, and coming even closer to life, because of it. I will definitely send you a photograph next time to show you what I’ve been up to! I’m getting a hang of it and know more what I want and how to get the photos I want. My photographs are getting very popular and more and more people are asking me the exhibit them. It will take time to organise this, but I will be very happy when I can do this.

I hope I can send you a photograph next time, but in the meanwhile I’ll be painting for my exhibition. I can’t tell you how I’m looking forward to this. Until next time – I hope it won’t be too long, take care.

May 2007 newsletter featuring "Finn" (Pastel - 33 x 48 cm)

Finn
I’m glad that I could show you a painting for the first newsletter this year. I am sorry that I took so long to send you this one, due to personal health problems. This is a portrait of Finn, a happy two year old belonging to the family. He has such a nice expression and I had to do him. I feel that I want to do more and more pastels, especially young faces, as the technique is good for the softness of the skin. The volume is very difficult to find, but that’s what the challenge is, to be able to get 3 dimensions with paint which has two dimensions.
I have been using my camera a lot recently, since I was given a new macro lenses for it and I feel I’m in heaven. You know how I love taking macro photos. It is extraordinary how marvelous it is and I spend long hours in the garden discovering life. There is a whole new world out there and I would like to show it to you. Maybe, I will send you one next time.

I’m painting and it’s a portrait again. This time it is of a 10 year old girl who has an expression that is very difficult to put down on paper. I hope I get her well as she has a lot of character and I want her to be happy with the painting. This is more so, as she organised her painting herself and wanted me to paint her!!!! Let me see what kind of feedback I get when it is finished.

I’m sorry there seems to be a problem getting to my photographs on my site. I will try to deal with it as soon as I can. I really don’t know why they have disappeared!!! Hopefully, they will be back very shortly.

Since last writing, I have been to Perth in Australia, which was another world again. I enjoyed it tremendously and took over 1500 photographs which came out really well. I would like to show them all to you, but it will be difficult to do that. If anyone wants to see them, they are welcome to come home and I would be happy to show them.

It seems that life is very exciting for me at present and I am very motivated in a lot of ways, but looks like I cannot find the time to show people enough of my work as I don’t have enough time to do this. I need my time to learn and to create and that takes up the little time I have.

Until next time, take care.

A Very Happy Christmas to all my friends

This is my first newsletter on the new site, so I hope all my friends will find it OK. The address is still cvalin.com and in future, all my newsletters will be over here. There won't be a special image, but then all my paintings will be on the album "recent paintings". As for my photos, I will regularly put on my latest images. At present, I have only put in some of my earlier ones, as I haven't had the time to put in any more. But I will do whenever I find the time.

I welcome all my new friends on Ipernity and I hope we will enjoy the contact with each other and exchange of ideas. This will be a living site, which is what I will enjoy working on, as I will be controlling it myself.

As I am coming to the end of my health problems, I will have more time to paint. This means so much to me and I will spend a lot of time preparing for my next exhibition which will be in May or June of next year. This exhibition will be held in the garden of "Val Rahmeh" in Menton and everyone is welcome to visit and maybe meet up with me. I'm looking forward to that so much.

Let me wish you all my friends, a Very Happy Christmas and all you wish for in the New Year.

-Photos of South India - Karnataka

I will be putting up about 15 photos a week on South India. I was there a few years ago on holiday for two weeks to see how it changed after 40 years!!! I was born there and spent 17 years in this part of the world. Lots of things had changed, but lots hadn't, so these photos are what impressed me. Hope you will enjoy them.

More photos from India - Karnataka!

Although the subject is of interest, the photos are not the best! At the time, I only had a little compact camera, and never knew much about photography. I have gone a long way since, but I thought the subject would interest some people.

More photos of street life in Bangalore

What colour on the streets. There is so much to see and so much to photograph! I took over 800 photos and never even deleted one. Naturally, they are of more importance to me, as I lived there. Hope they will be of interest to some of you. Enjoy them!

That's the lot!

No more photographs on India! I hope you enjoyed them. I tried to put in the ones that would interest you. It is such a contrasting subject - The old and the new, the rich and the poor. But, what colour! Facinating!
