Finally...

I have been lost without the Flickr - Ipernity importer for a few weeks, mainly due to the fact that Greasemonkey doesn't have an official release for FF3 yet.  That changed (or was supposed to change) this week when the GM build for FF-RC2 came out.  I installed GM and all the old scripts were there and worked like a charm.  I headed over to Flickr to start importing my backlog of photos, but was prompted to update to version 1.7 of the script, so I did.  When I went back to finish importing the photos, the F to I import box was no longer there?  I uninstalled, reinstalled...same issue.  I tried disabling other scripts and addons, same issue.  I gave up and called it a night.

This morning, I decided to try and install the GM update and the F to I import script on my laptop, same issue.  But as it usually goes, the simplest solution to something is often the one that is overlooked, and after a night's rest, I saw what was wrong right away (and felt pretty dumb about missing it in the first place).  The 1.7 version of the script doesn't include flickr.com URLs it only includes www.flickr.com.

Needless to say...it's all better now and I am all up to date with my current photos.

Over the slump...

I've been in a photo-slump and somewhat discouraged with my photography for the past couple months. A friend just picked up a DSLR as his first real camera and wants to get out shooting, this is becoming a good motivator for me.

One of my big things is that I don't like to draw attention to myself when I am photographing. It's not a shyness, but more that I just don't like to be stared at I guess? Having someone to photowalk with, someone who isn't afraid to crawl around on a sidewalk to get a good shot, is helping me get over that, plus it's funny to watch sometimes, and also to see people's reactions as they pass by.

At that, I am hoping things will pick up for me and my photo-taking, which is a relief for me. We'll see how things go from here.

The big push...

Expired x2
Expired x2
So, my account on Flickr expires this week, and I have decided that I will not renew. There are a few reasons for this, some technical, some personal, and some...just because. I know it's been hashed over time and time again by other people, so I am just going to leave it at that.

That said, I have just spent the last day and a half backing up all of my photos that were posted over there, some 1400 of them. It has taken a while and I am sure they are not happy to see the bandwidth hits, but if I don't get them out now, I will have to pay to be able to access over 1200 photos that will be locked away from me come Friday...which I don't agree with at all.

Now that I've finally got them backed up, I have also gone and migrated, what I consider to be the better of my photos, to my little space here. I have just about maxed my monthly upload limit in a matter of a few hours, but that's fine for now, as I will still be able to post a few from now until the end of the month. I didn't want to bombard my account with with an overload of photos, as I feel that a lot of gems might get overlooked, but I really had no choice. If I didn't do this, I would have had to hand-tag and title the photos all over again, which is a bit tedious. This way, I was still able to maintain the information that was already on the photos over on Flickr.

I apologize in advance to anyone this will annoy, though I promise that it won't happen again.

Now, time to go work on rebuilding my sets...

Halloween Horror...

First, let me state up front, that I am horrible at writing. I can explain anything to the "T" but I do it in so many words and tangents that it makes some folks dizzy. Secondly, I am still a bit pissed about the event that took place in this post, so my words are not always chosen carefully. I just feel that I have to put it out there and let out a little steam. It has been written to post to our small, in-town free paper's write-in section, as I know it will get back to the guilty party (small town here)...I just need to wait a day and cool off before I make a final decision to send it to them or not.

That said...here goes....

**********

Cheers to the brave young man who struck and killed the dog on Fort St. earlier this evening. You did a wonderful job of running the animal down and only slowing after a woman screamed at you to do so, and at that, only slowing enough for the animal to escape from under the front tire of your vehicle. You gracefully drove off once you were sure the animal was un-stuck from your fender, not even hesitating for a moment to stop and see if the animal was ok.

It was also very nice of you to walk over a short while later to check on the dog, and when informed that you had killed the dog, mention to the group of folks who were comforting the animal during it's last few breaths how it was OK because you were "over it" and that you were a hunter and this kind of thing happens all the time. Your words of encouragement really helped everyone else (including the small children who witnessed the whole ordeal) get "over it" and realize that you were, in fact, justified in what you did.

Finally, it was a relief to hear you (once you were confronted by the person who held and tended to the dog as it died) declare yourself a town employee, so that we'd know that everything will be OK, and that you are not bound by the same standard as those who actually stayed and tried to help the animal and somehow, above them.

Thank you for brightening the lives of all those involved, including the owners of the dog, by showing such a wonderful display of human compassion, you truly are a gift to society.

/In all seriousness, to the folks who stopped to help the animal, contacted the Police and ACO, and looked over the dog, thank you. It's good to see and know that there are people around who care.

Migration (phew)

It takes a lot of time to do this. ;-)

I think I am about 2/3 of the way through, then it's time to start rebuilding my albums.

Migration...

I'm going to try and bring over all of my better photos from elsewhere to here during the course of the next few days.  I'm going to start at the beginning, going back about 3 years and work my way up to present, which could take a few days, I think there are about 1500 photos to go through.  Hopefully, once that is all done, I can rebuild my albums and start out clean and organized on this side, as right now, I feel pretty scattered.

Wish me luck! ;-)

Getting into the swing of things..

Ok, I am beginning to get a bit more comfortable here.  I think I've finally figured out where everything is, though I haven't played with all of the features yet.  I need to spend a good solid hour or two just trying everything out before I am completely comfortable...maybe this week I will be able to do that.
