Playing with the API

Saturday June 23, 2007 at 02:44PM

Yes, it works.  A few small differences to f****r, but basically the same. Not too much functions supported, yet, but the basic upload functions I need are there.

That means: I have Ipernity upload possibility in my photo management software (f-spot.org) now. After all small issues are solved I'll try to get it into the official version (and then I'll publish a patch too because I don't know how hard it will be to have it accepted).

Implementation was very easy, if it wouldn't have been for one slight difference I spent quite a bit of time on figuring it out. ;-)

How have you managed to have API infos. Me too, I'd like to play with the API, but team Ipernity gave no answer to my email for infos... :-(
Have you started from the hints contained in the GM script?

Carstenpro replies:
I did ask them nicely for an API key and did explain what I will use it for. There's no documentation available right now (else I think it would be public) but for the already implemented ones you can use the documentation on f****r. On the other hand I just did adjust available code to work with Ipernity as well...

I don't know, are there Greasemonkey scripts using the API?

Maybe there've just too many questions to answer currently? ;-)

Flickr2Ipernity uses a json endpoint to save the imported shot; it's the only GM script that I know of (and your graphr, of course)

As a side note: I used your app without knowing you was the developer. Congrats for the great work

Cool, I was looking into trying to programm something for f-spot as well (which would have been the first thing I ever did in C#...) It for sure will be better to wait for your patch ;-) Thanks for the work...!

Carstenpro replies:
Well C# is easy and fun. Nice to know that this patch will be use for at least another user. :D

Can you send me the patch or where I find it? I have tried to find it in the official repositories and have not yet found it...

Carstenpro replies:
it's not in the official repository yet, but I will you send a patch to you later. I hope a diff to current SVN version is ok...

foncu replies:
can I have that patch, too? Thank you in advance.

Carstenpro replies:
You can download a diff for SVN rev. 3302 at foto-cs.de/blog/downloads/f-spot_ipernity.diff.bz2

After upload one page for each uploaded image will be shown. As the processing on Ipernity takes a while, there is almost always an "Access denied" message showing. Just reload the page a moment later.

Else the same functionality as for the flickr upload in ipernity is supported...

I am trying to figure out how to implement this as an extension (f-spot now has an extension framework) so that this can be done independently of f-spot itself... Have you already given it a thought?
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Carstenpro replies:
I know about the extension framework but I don't know (yet) how to implement this using it. To have a quick solution I just changed the available code. :-D

For a final "inclusion" into f-spot I would rather suggest using the extension framework and I wouldn't wonder, if this addition would be rejected now because of this.

But I would like to wait until the API is released officially anyway. And then I would like to use the native API rather than the flickr compatibility API. I just have to figure out how to implement it as extension. ;-)

BTW, does the patch work for you?
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Carstenpro replies:
Hehe I just read your message on the f-spot dev list. :D (I just read it using gmane)

BTW I haven't sent it to a developer (or the list) yet because I think the final web pages are not nice yet. But currently I have the definite opinion to wait for the native API instead of urging the flickr staff for changes to the upload process using the flickr compatibility layer.

I will follow the discussion on the list closely and maybe use the results as a starting point for an implementation as extension.

Gunnar Wegner says:
Hey, I am a heavy f-spot user, too, and I am playing around with its export capabilities as well. Is there any chance that an extension will be out soon? Is the patch you provided compatible with the source code currently available through svn?

Carstenpro replies:
I didn't work on converting it to an extension lately. Actually I am waiting that the Flickr export is converted as it would make my work much easier :D. I'll try to make a patch to the current SVN version, though, and publish it if it works...

Carstenpro replies:
Good news. The Flickr Exporter has been converted to an extension (almost) and it is very easy to integrate the Ipernity export there. I just have to fix a small bug then I'll post the code here. As it is now an extension, I'll try to get the necessary changes into the "official" Flickr exporter later...

Hi guys!
Where can I find Ipernity API? And are there some libraries for PHP which will help me to use it (like by other web2.0 tools)?
It is strange... everybody here speak about the API, but there dos not exist a site about it...
Thanks!

Carstenpro replies:
The API's still not officially released yet :(. Major changes are on the way as I hear (at least for the internal API).

Still you could ask the team to get access...
