I've started out this new year with a huge "born again" inspiration for photography. It's been a hobby of mine on-and-off for nearly two decades, but only since I got my DSLR in 2006 did it really become a major interest (blame it on no own darkroom and the expenses of developing film). Last summer I joined a couple of photography communities, and during the fall I became gradually more and more sucked in.
I entered 2008 with an ambition of taking at least one photo every single day, but have since modified that goal significantly. The red lamps started blinking when the daily photo became a chore more than a creative challenge, and when I put together a collage of my January entries it took me one single glance to cancel the whole thing. Not even half of the photos were anything remotely close to interesting, too many of them weren't decent even from a pure technical point of view. Consequently, I've quit all those 365/366 projects I'd joined, and I've actually been taking more photos since..! (I've just not uploaded them all.) It's good to feel the inspiration and urge to use the camera once again.
How do you normally feel about daily challenges like that - do they make your creative juices flow or are you put off from the whole "photography thing" by them?
Other than that: I've just ordered a modified Holga from holgamods, and I got a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D for my birthday this week. Yippee!
