Dear club members, dear friends,
In 2017, when I was asked by William Sutherland and Lutz Petersen to help save ipernity from shipwreck, I had just turned 65. I felt too young and energetic for a tranquil retirement. So I went for it, knowing well that it would be a challenging venture full of uncertainties because no one on the founding team was a qualified IT professional. But volunteering for a worthwhile non-profit project appealed to me, and as a passionate mountaineer I was used to handling uncertainties. In doing so, I made a promise to serve our community for five years. This is a usual term of mandate for executives. This commitment ends on my 70th birthday in May 2022.
It is therefore time for the community to start thinking about who to entrust with my two mandates in the ima team (Vice-President and Treasurer). Because this will have to be voted on at the next General Assembly at the end of March 2022. After that, I will of course be available to coach my successors and to advise the ima team, as far as this is desired.
Four years ago, I embarked as a turnaround manager. Together with the others from the ima team, I have fulfilled this task. Apart from the known risks and some minor malfunctions, our website is currently running smoothly. The user experience has never been as good as it is at present. Our association is also well arranged in organisational and financial terms. Nevertheless, we are faced with two major challenges. One is that the technological basis of our website is inexorably approaching the end of its life cycle. The other is to attract enough new club members to pay for the required technical upgrade. These two tasks cannot be done in my remaining election period. They have rather the scope of another three to five years. For this, our association needs new strength and a breath of fresh air.
Of course, it would be possible to run for both mandates for another two years. The knowledge and experience I have gained are the very best prerequisite, and mentally I feel absolutely fit for it. But meanwhile my physical body is very clear in showing me limits that I must not ignore. After two eye operations in the past months, one of them an emergency glaucoma operation, I have to accept that my vision will never be the same any more. For me as a photographer, this is very sad to accept.
But above all, a further candidacy would also be dishonest towards the club. For I can no longer promise that I will be physically able for long enough not only to tackle the challenges described above, but also to bring them to a successful conclusion. It is therefore with a heavy heart that I choose to practice the art of a timely retirement and prepare myself to be only a normal member of the association in the future, as well as to give my successors all the support I am capable of.
Our association needs one or two new leaders from next March, who are keen to tackle the challenges with vigour and lead our association into further bright future. In order to allow enough time to apply for my succession, I am already informing you of this today.

I do hope your eye operations are successful.
It is greatly appreciated.
My best wishes for your recovery from the eye operations.
the time has not come for a final salute to the pillar that has supported the new ipernity for the past 5 years, helped by an often renewed and always valiant team.
But I am touched by your message and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you warmly for your admirable dedication and creativity. While wishing you a favorable outcome to your eye operations and a well-deserved retirement.
Your presence on the site will always be an assurance for us, but it will not be enough, indeed.
I do not believe that one person will be able to take over the responsibilities that you have carried out all this time. Let's exhort the community to mobilize enough so that a collegiate administration can be put in place to lighten the load of each member of ima.
I firmly believe in this. And you are without doubt the main source of faith that drives us all. Thank you for that too.
My best wishes,
Eric
And mere words of thanks, in light of your outstanding commitment to ipernity in collaboration with the rest of the ima team, and the price you paid for it, don't seem to me an adequate return.
I hope, our membership community finally hears the wake-up call and responds accordingly, because each of you deserves every possible support and relief from the membership community as a token of gratitude.
I sincerely wish you all the best and worthy successors.
Thank you for your selfless dedication and hard work over these last years. You have steered the club to a much better place, and we owe you huge gratitude. I am very sorry to hear of your glaucoma. Such a difficult thing to manage, most especially for a photographer.
You have done a wonderful job. Sincere thanks and best wishes.
Diana
All the best, Amelia
Bergfex club has replied to Amelia clubI also like to pass on the compliments to the companions with whom I had the privilege to work on this great project, as well as the current members of the ima team and its advisors. What we have achieved is a collaborative effort, to which, moreover, all who have contributed in the countless discussions have contributed.
Besides, I'll still be around full time for the next few months. I'm just temporarily working a little less to rest my eyes.
I would also like to add my appreciation to you and the entire team for your hard work and success in turning ipernity around, and my admiration at how you have coped with IT issues in particular. As someone whose computer has been more at risk of being thrown through the window than most I really apprciate how brilliant you have all been!!
Hats off to you Bernhard - you deserve your retirement!

Heidiho club has replied to Bergfex club... zu 1.
* ઇઉ * club has replied to Bergfex clubNevertheless, I, too, would like to argue for preserving one of our unique selling points, freedom of advertising, but without wanting to speak for others, and without wanting to impede the progress of ipernity and its development towards competitiveness.
My plea for the preservation of advertising freedom doesn't base on personal fears, either.
Rather, in view of the global present and the future prospects of mankind and nature, I consider us to have an obligation to accept responsibility. We can and should counteract a “business as usual”, also with regard to the ubiquitous use of the torture instruments of the advertising industry, with the potential of the own creativity and innovative capacity/power of our community.
Also ich unterstütze Bernhards Vorschlag.
* ઇઉ * club has replied to Boarischa Krautmo clubAnd if I understand you correctly, how do we justify the classification and deletion of other accounts for advertising as SPAM in the future?
Boarischa Krautmo club has replied to * ઇઉ * club1. a "business account" (at a higher rate than a personal account) who allows companies to upload advertising. This is rather a kind of sponsoring: they pay (and help us thus) but it requires active action of users to click on these accounts. So the rate can't be very high (if there is any interst at all)
2. a note in the regular news flashes like "XY offers the 15 to 1500 f 1:2,8 mm zoom lens for 999.- this week. A link with referrer added and if a users buys using this link ip gets 2 % of the sales.
3. kind of a banner in the foot line ( with referrer as above mentioned)
4. donations of companies with thankful mention in the news flashes
.
.
.
there are more ways for sure....
* ઇઉ * club has replied to Boarischa Krautmo clubUnanswered is the question of the justification for deleting other advertising accounts if certain companies/merchants are (possibly) privileged in the future.
Does the justification arise for you from the paid "premium account" you envision?
If so, that has potential for conflict.
Resourceful advertisers have set up accounts here in the past for which they paid membership fees - and still... were deleted… Rightly so, as it is written…(Terms of use)
Please don't misunderstand me. I am trying to focus on an aspect that is by no means irrelevant.
If selected photo stores are given the opportunity to set up a paid account here for the purpose of advertising, others might get the idea. How do we want to and can we deal with this?
Is there anyone in the team who is able and willing to deal with other advertisers who come to us of their own accord and explain to them that, despite their willingness to pay, they are not welcome here, and why? Would you, for example, be willing and able to take on this task?
Or can the team members who are currently responsible for deleting SPAM accounts perform this additional task, and can and may they be expected to do so? Would there be enough other members to support their work?
I think, all of these questions are valid when I see how little willingness there is in general to support the team's work in one way or another, and how few generally read group rules or even the Club News, or react to calls for help like this one.
It's another mammoth task that I'm happy to support as best I can, and I also ask that these comments be realized as such, but none of us should obscure pertinent facts.
There is a time in life strenght leaves us little by little, we have to make choices and enjoy life the most we can. Therefore I wish you enjoy climbing your mountains for many years ahead and will take time to share photos with us.
I dont have the required skills but hope someone will come forward and join this amazing team in order to keep our photographic home going for long.

Isabel
I admire your work very much!!
I don't have the required skills, i'm sorry
I whish you the best!
Many thanks!

-Fotoversicherungen
-Kameras und Fotozubehör
-Fotoreisen
-Fotokurse
-Fotolaborleistungen, Fotogeschenke
Wer günstig einkaufen will, sieht dort nach.
* ઇઉ * club has replied to Leo W clubIf there really is such a thing as unobtrusive online advertising at all, I could go along with it. However, since advertising of this kind is foreign to me so far, as I said, I'd like to and will take the opportunity to deal with the obviously different types of online advertising in more detail.
But before doing so, I've a question for you as well (not trying to troll), even if it might already go into too much detail at this point.
Would members who want to use the offers you listed as examples have the same financial advantages if their residence is not Germany?
I'm thinking, for example, of higher shipping costs, travel costs, etc.
Boarischa Krautmo club has replied to * ઇઉ * clubI am sure, there are photo shops (no pun intended) in other countries, too.
* ઇઉ * club has replied to Boarischa Krautmo clubOkay, they are examples. And yet… we are an international community.
So, a counter question: How many photo stores in other countries can and do we want to offer a deal to without being flooded by advertising in the future, so that the actual purpose of this site gets pushed into the background?
There is much to consider, and this is just the beginning.
I'm already looking forward to brainstorming on the team blog and hope to see factually convincing, and all community members winning arguments from the team.

Bergfex club has replied to Leo W clubWir sollten diesen Gedanken auf jeden Fall in uns weiter bewegen.
Leo W club has replied to Bergfex clubIn Deutschland muss man etwas aufpassen, dass man keinen steuerlichen Vorgang produziert (=Anzeigenverkauf).
