this is the end ...

Saturday June 30, 2007 at 05:32PM

"Aller Anfang hat Anfang des Anfangs und Ende des Anfangs."

niklas luhmann

every begin has begin and end of the begin. aller anfang hat anfang des anfangs und ende des anfangs. i don't know if the translation is right, nor do i remember where i read this sentence from niklas luhmann.

"Die Asthetik des Anfangs beruht auf der Injunktion eine Unterscheidung im unmarked space treffen zu müssen, ohne auf weitere Kriterien der Handhabung des Unterscheidenkönnens zurückzugreifen. Sie setzt dementsprechend die Fähigkeit zur Initiative voraus." (bazon brock, wuppertal) ... with other words - let's do it !

i will keep my 'old' pictures at flickr - not anymore 'public' but 'visible for friends' - but i will post my new pictures here in ipernity. call it pragmatically, call it sentimental ... however ... i can't stop loving 'flickr the old way' for what it still means to me: the place where i found dear friends and impressing artworks. the place where i got exciting inspirations and so much encouraging feedback.

i will not move all my more than 2000 pictures from two years to ipernity - only a few which i like myself for several reasons ... and some which i suppose you might enjoy as a friendly reminder.

without all your thoughtful comments, without some of our madsweet giggles and totally out of context they are 'only' photos for me ... ok, just wanted to let you know that i will not delete my flickr account :)

the politics of yahoo is intolerable and i see the acting of flickr's management as a disappointing desaster ! but i will not use ipernity as 'fighting-platform' and don't want to start a new discussion in this blog.

big thank you to all friends who are just here (or there) in the one or other way ...

Today I moved my 2559 Photos from Flickr to Ipernity. You are right Elisabeth. It's hard without the environment of comments and faves.
I will show only a part of the old pictures here in special sets.
All in all it is very sad story.

This is NOT the end.

Let us build something new.

A good choice.

I read this a few hours ago and still don't know what to say. I understand people going. Good luck with this new home. This is so much like what we were saying under Atomicity's picture, it's the community of people that counts and we're still a community across websites. Of course I'll be hopping back and forth but I'm totally taken aback that we don't 'live together' anymore.

bay i read your lines yesterday and just like you, i didn't know how to reply ... yes, there is still this 'ping-pong-feeling' - and everything we were talking with adam - but from day to day i have less doubts about my decision ... friendships will stay across websites, that's for certain.
for me it's not like moving to another city or even country - but rather like moving into a new room - and it's still the same house where 'live together' ! it doesn't matter how often we 'visit' eachother - it's more about what we do together and how we care for eachother ...

dartar says:
hello, I'm here too :)
I second bay's words, I still have the feeling that I live somewhere else and that I am visiting some friends who are segregated on a distant island for an unjustifiable decision of the people who run flickr. I have to add that in my case time is an issue and I find really painful not being able to come and look and comment on my friends' work as often as I used to. But I respect the strong decision you guys made and will do by best to visit this place (my holidays residence?) as often as I can :))
