José Neto, artist and philosopher. His work is based on deep thinking and a very reasonable experience of life, both allowing him to express without any limitations and to renounce to the will to be understood. As he say, "I know this attitude of mine is not current among artists, who generally delegate on critics or historians of art the justification of what they do". Despite of his indifference by critics, I can't lose the opportunity to record my appreciation on an artist that elects the permanent crisis, individual or social, as an omnipresent theme for the majority of the 3D objects he creates, infrequently paintings in only one plane.

"Crisis is the essence of life", he said. I hope the Portugueses could feel the same.

How can one talk on the crisis plasticizing? Well, it's not easy! The first condition is to have enough talent and imagination. Afterwards, it's required a solid moral and cultural background just to avoid excesses of expression due to deficient assimilation or bad taste. Finally, a technique adequate to transform concept's historical or sentimental worth into works of art. It is exactly within these parameters that I assess upon the mastery of the great artist and philosopher, José Neto. Sarcastic till the limits of irony to awaken sleeping mentalities. Lucid in the rigour through which he identifies the illusion of the social ambition; cemeteries are crowded by vane souls. Using out of context techniques, maybe renewing and trying new production means.

Dense and annoying artist, José Neto creates objects of great beauty and vivifying symbolism, hanged or on the walls as memorandum' sheets reminding us of the daily survival crisis. As well as a poet not from pamphleteer aesthetics but gliding between the physics and metaphysics of his philosophical epistemology, provocative, intelligent, perpetuating the humanity's crisis.

José Neto, artista e filósofo. O que fundamenta a sua obra é um pensamento profundo e uma já muito razoável experiência de vida, que lhe permitem exprimir-se sem quaisquer limitações e prescindir de querer ser entendido. Nas suas próprias palavras, "Sei que esta minha prática não é corrente nos artistas, pois geralmente delegam nos críticos ou historiadores de arte a narrativa justificadora daquilo que fazem". Apesar da sua indiferença pelos críticos, não vou deixar de registar a minha apreciação por um artista que elege o estado de crise permanente, individual ou social, como tema omnipresente na maioria dos objectos 3D que cria, raramente pinturas num só plano.

Como é que se pode falar de uma plasticidade da crise? Bem, a resposta não é fácil! A primeira condição é ter talento e imaginação para tal. Depois é necessária uma sólida formação moral e cultural que evite exageros de expressão por deficiente assimilação ou mau gosto. E finalmente uma técnica adequada à transformação do valor histórico ou sentimantal dos conceitos em obras de arte. É exactamente nestes parâmetros que julgo a mestria do grande artista e filósofo, José Neto. Sarcástico até ao limite da ironia para despertar as mentalidades adormecidas. Lúcido no rigor com que identifica a ilusão do querer social; os cemitérios estão cheios de almas vaidosas. Utilizando técnicas fora do contexto usual, quiçá renovando e experimentando novos meios de produção.

Artista denso e incómodo, José Neto cria objectos de grande beleza e sombolismo vivencial, suspensos ou agarrados às paredes como folhas de memorando a relembrarem-nos a crise diária da sobrevivência. Simultaneamente um poeta de estética não panfletária, vogando entre a física e a metafísica de sua epistemologia filosófica, provocador, inteligente, perpetuando a crise da humanidade.
