If you know your Billy Elliot you'll be aware that, at the end of the film, ballet trained Billy takes to the stage in Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake and makes his Dad cry with pride and the beauty of it. So I was looking forward to my first experience of MBSL at Sadler's Wells. There are some common misconceptions about this production. It's not an all male cast. It's not the traditional Swan Lake story. And it's not classical ballet nor anything much like it. In the end I was relieved that despite the attempts of the alpha cob to protect him the other swans pecked the Prince to death. He got what he deserved.
