A good day for a start as it seems!
Happy birthday ipernity!
Oniric Mermaid says:
Welcome to Ipernity!
Siegfried Vogel replies:
Well, what I'm really interested in is what drives you to act as an artist, and to exhibit your work here at ipernity.
Thanks for your warm welcome! :)
MacKeypro says:
really looking forward to more of your work.
Siegfried Vogel replies:
I have the same question as with Oniric Mermaid: How comes that you put so much time in your artwork - and show it here at ipernity?
Thanks for your visits and kind remarks, MacKey!
Oniric Mermaid says:
Well, I came to Ipernity from Flickr last year after the riots anti-censure, when this place was like a palace in a ball, with lots of artists around. I liked (and I like) the possibility of integrating different media in just one website, especially having a public blog on matters that matter to me. It is a pity that most of the best photographers that came last year have left. I still have my main account in Flickr, since I consider the artistic community there better and bigger, but I'm sort of tired of the dynamics there, and I'm spending more time here lately, because it is a peaceful place and I feel less "stressed" here.
What drives you to act as an artist? It is a need to express myself, like eating to feed your body. I create to give way to my imagination, to my thoughts. It is my way to reflect about the outer world and my inner world. I need to write and I need to do something artistically visual, like painting or photoshopping or photographing, or whatever. To create is like being pregnant all the time and delivering all the time, with the pain and pleasure that that brings. That is to me create. Places like Ipernity allow my to express myself beyond my usual circles of people.
What about you? What is your background? What brought you to Iper? What moves you? Are you psychologist?
Siegfried Vogel replies:
I came from fotocommunity.de, Germany's earliest platform for photographers. I was there almost from beginning, when there were only some hundred people, and everyone knew the others. Was rather familiar and mostly friendly then. Easy to get feedback. Then happened the digital revolution - and now they claim to have 600'000 members. Gone was familiarity, gone was quality of photo content and remarks. But yes, the grounder makes big money now. :)
Am I psychologist? Of course, who is not?! But then, not as profession. :)
My background is technical, and I always was looking for a counterbalance to my all-too-often left brain only work. Pictures are my answer and I'm happy again.
"To create is like being pregnant all the time and delivering all the time, with the pain and pleasure that that brings." Thanks for that self description, dear Mermaid. I will remember you by that! And by your creative work. And 'cause Blade Runner is an all-time favorite movie of you! :)
Thanks for this conversation! Conversation start, as I hope.

PS: Well, some people are more psychologists than others. Yes, we are all a little bit. But, you see, there are the fools who think that can fool everybody, those who use inductive language to make you do what they want, those who have an easy insight into human psyche, and professional ones. So which one of the others are you? :D
Siegfried Vogel replies:
What is your profession, dear Mermaid? Would you tell me?
Oniric Mermaid says:
ummmm, hhhhh, ummm I won't ;D Not for now hahahahhah until you tell me which sort of psychologist are thou :D
Oh provocation is what I call mental stimulation!
Hey, my collages are not self-contained!
Siegfried Vogel replies:
Now tell me your profession, if you don't mind. And of course, keep provocating mental response! :)

That is a wise insight, 6 of 1. Neverteheless, have the same question as with all of my visitors: How comes that you put so much time in your artwork - and show it here at ipernity?
Oniric Mermaid says:
Ok, I have a PhD in something, and I work using my brain and other abilities. Humanities not science. Favourite hobbies thinking. analysing, learning, opening my eyes to world, and mental doodling. Favourite Sport, provoking; I wear the boxing gloves just in case. Abilities: I make new words quite easily, just to express myself fullyness. Thinks I hate: fakefullness and stupid-ee-tea. I never give details of my real me online, but all what I have said it is true.
Still waiting for your reply to my last question in my last entry blog... your criteria.... spill the beans... or at least the bins :D
Siegfried Vogel replies:
Looking forward to seeing and hearing from you under my contributions!

viel über ihre person sagen ... nicht ?
Siegfried Vogel replies:
that's true of course - the pictures people show in their stream tell a story or two about the authors.
What I would like to know of you is the same as with all of my visitors: How comes that you put so much time in your artwork - and show it here at ipernity?
Thank you. I appreciate your visits an comments.
mo **pro replies:
i was fascinated seeing what other people were showing
in their pics : either because of another perspective they were
showing or because of the artistic work they presented .. both
attracted me and let me start sharing my work .
i changed from the other site ( one you seem to know too ) to ipernity ,
like many others for known reasons ... and landed here .
i love the atmosphere of this smaller and mo-re european community ...
and i met wonderful people that mean a lot to me meanwhile -
the most important one you know too by now .
... the reason for spending time here is because i love to communicate with
other people .. see their pics , get to know what they're thinking and seeing ,
maybe what they're dreaming .. mundane details out of their world .
i also love to know what they think and feel when they see my pics ...
... told you a lot .. it's your turn now !
Siegfried Vogel replies:
Some lines about me. When Internet was young (hehe) - or at least community sites - I discovered a photo community site. And as I just had started with digital photography, it was a perfect match. I learned a lot looking at other's work and discussing my pics and that of others.
I just outgrew it, as it became a mass phenomenon, like everyone has a digital snapshot cam by now.
Ipernity is not the masses - and I really hope it will stay this way. I like familiarity and when the community is not too big, the comments tend to be richer in content.

But putting mo aside (difficult to imagine, I know! :-) ), what's special with ipernity for you? Why are you showing your work here?
franck replies:
the first thing that I wanted to do here was to observe and learn through pictures of other people. Then I regularly posted my pics to shares with others my look on the world around us.
Ipernity is a treasure of diversity ... and I still have much to discover here.
but I have already found much *MO*-re that I hoped... :)

i don't have a real style ,sure i have a preference for the colours satured, but i love photographied all sort of things ..... nature , people, child, life of all the days

200mb X month is not bad at all for me
Why not flickr, because it rocks of lamers and spam, and I left flickr because of the censorship
Scoopro says:
What it all boils down to is that I find the notion of people enjoying the images I capture very pleasing and thus strive to produce more images. By doing this I document my reality, the activities of me and my wife and relatives and so on. One underlying thought is to be able to show images of my reality in the present in the future to possible grandchildren etc. (as I have the pleasure of looking into the world of my grandparents and my parents when they were children). Seeing my great-grandfather next to his car with a three digit number plate provides a nice connection to the man that was dead for thirty years before I came to the world.
Having seen pre-war images of my father's siblings give so much more context to stories such as the one of the sheep that they kept for the summer which was turned into meat in the autumn. Sitting at the dinner table my aunt was first to refuse eating of their beloved sheep and was followed in her protest by the other children. Then my grandmother joined in refusing eating it. Finally my grandfather accepted that he could not eat it and the meat was traded for mutton from a nearby farmyard.
To finish this rant, I photograph mainly for documentary purposes and secondly for artistry and I am glad when someone out there fancy something I've shot. Why Ipernity? Because I used to be active at flickr. Just as I was about to pay for their services (had a plenty of interesting images from our honeymoon in Tunisia last year) last summer the bomb fell (that is, their let's-censor-all-German-language-users blunder) which was followed by other censorship-related idiotic incidents (such as the smoking adolescent Romanian boy which was deleted). The creative climate felt stifle and I lost faith in it all. Then I found ipernity, my account was dormant until I chose properly insert myself in the current :)
Since art or creative processes are two-way processes, I suppose I need an audience to be motivated to make art.
A bit boring to look at slideshows of the contents of my home computer alone in the dark at home ;) On your stream I find many inspiring images of various types (a rather condensed comment I suppose).
Siegfried Vogel replies:
Thanks for denominating me "inspiring of various types" - glad you see it that way, buddy!

many of us have been waiting decades for the capability to do exactly what we CAN
now do. the tools we have use of now..digital sensors, gimp/photoshop, broadband, ipernity
etc - fantastic. =]
i enjoy our communal pursuit of seeking imagery and producing it
just to please eachother and ourselves. this is a global fraternity .)

Thanks a lot for your thoughts, pixel cafe!
BTW, do you come from another platform, or is this a brand new start?
pixel café says:
i am liking it here.
my early impressions of IP compared to flickr..
the extra functionality is interesting.
the ability to see who visits you - encourages more interaction and networking.
even as a free member here i seem to be able to add a picture to as many groups as i wish,
(at least - as many as i have wished to!) rather than the maximum of ten, on flickr.
i am learning to blog a little bit here. it's a new experience for me.

That ipernity is a cozy size community I'd agree with. And that changes so much! I quit other communities that grew too large and got unpersonal in the way.
I hope ip can manage to stay this familiar!

That's a good point: Seeing the world through other's eyes. And offering the own unique view to others.
Why especially ipernity, given all the other photo-sites?
