Migrating from Flickr... maybe!

Monday April 14, 2008 at 12:38AM

Having become increasingly disenchanted with Flickr (good though it still is) thought I'd best start looking for an alternative photohosting/sharing site... just in case I decide to move.

Well, I tried Picasa ages ago and didn't like it. Same with ImageShack. More recently I've played with SmugMug, and Zooomr. Both looked as though they had potential but, digging beneath the surface a little, both presented me with "issues" that I'm not really prepared to make the effort to resolve (or rather, attempt to).

So somehow I've landed up here at Ipernity and have to confess that first impressions are very favourable.

But before I give Flickr up totally (if indeed I ever do) I'll probably just mess around here for a few months to see how things work out.

Oh, you found us...Damm!

No really I did tell you about ipernity but i think it was just when you had started using flickr.
I am also having reservations about Flickr, now they are doing video, it could kill the stills aspect, and lets face it if you want video, sod off to Youtub!

Any way fotdmike, about time you got here :)

Yeah, it was the video (or more accurately the way they introduced and have implemented it) following so soon after the announcement of their possible buyout by Microsoft that did it for me.

I don't doubt you mentioned this place to me. Can recollect having looked at it before, but couldn't remember how I found it, so that was probably it.

Initial impressions are incredibly positive. Only real dilemma at the moment is whether I continue to be active at Flickr (having built up quite a good circle of contacts there) or somehow work the two in tandem. Undecided at the mo'.
