[ES] Equipo de Fotógrafo de Guerra [EN] Conflict Photographer's Gear

[ES] Después de charlar con algunos amigos fotógrafos de diferentes agencias (Polaris, EFE, AFP, etc.) he decidido hacer un pequeño resumen de equipo que utilizan durante su trabajo diario. Claro está que aquí no hablamos de James Nachtway ni de Robert Capa sino de reporteros de "ahora mismo" que tienen una familia, hijos y una hipoteca.

La logistica es muy importante, normalmente agencia da una provisión de fondos para cada proyecto/viaje pero hay algunas que dejan libertad absoluta avanzando fondos mensuales, así dejando al fotógrafo decidir en lo que quiere gastar su presupuesto.

Equipo de Fotoreportero de Guerra

• Cámaras - Suelen llevar equipo ligero y fácil de manejar. Ejemplos: Nikon 200D, 300D, Canon 5D/40D, incluso alguno que tiene brazos como remos lleva una 1D Mark III o Mark II N.
• Lentes: Un gran angular 16-35, Todoterreno 24-105, Teles 70-200 con duplicadores.
• Flash: Flash por si acaso (580EXII)
• Otros: Tarjetas: 2 de igual tamaño metidas en la cámara (si ésta lo permite) y unas 6 más de hasta 4 Gb, ya que disparando en JPEG no ocupa mucho espacio.
• Grips, 2 baterías dentro + 2 de recambio y una docena de pilas alcalinas, por si las moscas.
• Comunicaciones. Un compañero de agencia americana lleva también un dispositivo inalámbrico para transmitir imagenes a un ayudante en una fragoneta. De canon suelen llamarse WTF-XX, yo los llamo dispositivos "What The Fuck".
• Ordenador Portatil con capacidad de transmisión: Tarjeta 3G si el país lo soporta, GSM/GPRS/Wifi (según cada ocasión) y para sitios sin infraestructura el maletín con Inmarsat Satellite modem.

• Escaneador de Frecuencias - Para enterarnos de lo que succede se lleva un escaneador de frecuencias Kenwood, Yaesu. Cada uno tiene su preferencia. Te servirá si entiendes el idioma local.

[EN] Having argued a lot with some friends and colleagues from news and photo agencies (Polaris, EFE, AFP, etc.) I decided to make a little summary of all the equipment they use while on field. We are neither talking about James Nachtway nor Robert Capa here but of reporters of "present tense" with a family, kids and a mortage.

All logistic arrangements are crucial; normally the agency provides you with funds for each assignment or project but some of them, in the effort to offer some liberty to the photographer, provision monthly budget for your convenience.

Conflict Photographer Gear

• Cameras - Lightweight equipment is preferred. For instance: Nikon 200D, 300D, Canon 5D or 40D, but there are some people that do take Mark II N or Mark III with them.
• Glass - A wide-angle 16-35, all road 24-105, Telephotolens 70-200 with extenders.
• Flash - A strobe just in case say 580 EX II.
• Others: Memory Cards: 2 cards within the camera (if supported), and some 6 more no greater than 4 Gb. Shoting in JPEG we have plenty of room.
• Grips, 2 batteries inside + 2 extra batteries, and a dozen of non rechargeable 1.5 v alcalines.
• Communications. A friend of mine likes to work with a wireless transmitters, shooting and transmitting live to the press van where his assistant processes the picture and uploads onto the agency server. Canon calls it WTF-XX, and I call them "What the Fuck" devices.
• Portable Computer with wireless capabilities: A 3G card if country network supports it, GSM/GPRS/Wifi card (depends on the occasion) and for those spots around the world Inmarsat Satellite modem case.

• Frequency Scanner - To help us find out where the action is, e.g. Kenwood and Yaesu for me are the best (well, each one has his/her preferences). Fair enough you speak the local language, otherwise you'd need a local guide to help you around.
