How to post other people's images in your blog

Tuesday April 7, 2009 at 10:25AM

A simple, (hopefully) beginner-friendly explanation.

David Joyner recently pointed out that posting other people's images in your own blog is non-obvious. So I decided to write a little HOWTO about the most basic method I know.

  1. In the blog editor, click the "Source" button:
    source button
    source button

Now the editor shows the html code it generated from your text:
    source view
    source view

Don't change any of the funny tags if you don't know what you're doing!
  2. In another window (or tab), find the picture you want to post and click the "view all sizes" button:
    view sizes button
    view sizes button

Then select the desired size and copy the code in the "Copy this HTML code:" box:
    all sizes page
    all sizes page
  3. Now paste the code into the blog-editor at the position where you want the picture to appear:
    paste point
    paste point
  4. Now press the "Source" button again:
    post with image
    post with image

and you can go on editing your message

If you use other people's pictures in your blog, alway make sure you have the right to do so! If you use non-free images, always ask for permission!

The picture used in this post is Baltimore downtown, 49 by wdj. And added as described above, it looks like this: ("Square" sized).
