For the past three weeks I have not been on ipernity because I've been on a birding/wildlife related trip to Namibia and Botswana, two countries in the southern tip of africa.
Starting in Windhoek, Namibia's capital, we headed south and west to go to the Namib-Naukluft National Park, famous for the enormous dunes there. We also did a 17 km hike in that area. From Naukluft N.P. we headed northwest across the Namib Desert to Swakopmund, a large city on the coast, which is a fairly big tourism area in Namibia. There we went to see lots of shore and sea birds in nearby Walvis Bay, which is a great spot in particular for flamingos (you'll see photos of them later).
After two nights in Swakopmund, we continued onwards, this time to the northeast, to the town of Uis, at the foot of Brandberg Mountain, the highest peak in Namibia. We spent a few days there, on one day going to the White Lady Rock Art below the mountain. These are rock paintings dating back up to 5,000 years. However, they are very mis-named, as the "White Lady" is not a female figure, and only half of him is painted white.
As I upload more from the trip I'll make a Part 2 and a Part 3 article.
