I was checking out Harlequin's submission guidelines for my historical romance and ran into a requirment for an alpha hero. Gideon Lyons is many admirable things - else Charlotte Backus would not have fallen in love with him - but he is not an alpha hero.

I've gone from being super positive that this story is saleable to wondering if there's a market for it. Surely I am not so very unique as to be the only person who finds the quiet good looking fellow in the back row with the crystal intellect and wry sense of humour to be preferable to the loud, over-confident jock in the front row?
