Bert Weedon original recording of "Apache" (Jerry Lordan) was unreleased until issued after the Shadows success then it did make the U.K. top thirty. Bert was well known for his instructional guitar manuals. This original is quite a bit different than re-releases by Mr. Weedon.

The Shadows (Hank Marvin, Jet Harris, Tony Meehan and Bruce Welch) topped the British charts with their cover later in 1960. Cliff Richard (Harry Webb) plays Chinese drum at the beginning and end (wikipedia). The Shadows also hit with Jerry Lordan's "Wonderful Land" and the team of Jet Harris and Tony Meehan reached the charts with his composition of "Diamonds" while Lawrence Welk had successful with his "Scarlett O'Hara".

Denmark's Jorgen Ingmann took the tune to number two on Billboard in 1961.
