The Pinetoppers (George Vaughn Horton and brother Roy Horton) and the Beaver Valley Sweethearts issued "Mockingbird Hill" (George Horton) in 1950. The melody is based on a Swedish waltz called "Life in the Woods". Other Vaughn Horton compositions by the former coal miner include "Sugar Foot Rag", "Plantation Boogie" and "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie".
Patti Page's (Clara Ann Fowler) cover in 1951 peaked at number two on Billboard and was her fourth million seller. Through the forties, fifties and sixties her career was stellar but Patti didn't record a live album until the 1998 release "Live at Carnegie Hall: The 50th Anniversary Concert". For this effort she won her very first Grammy. The Singing Rage made a Canadian Tour in 2008 and we were lucky enough to be in the audience when she appeared locally. She had more hits than she could sing in almost two hours.
