I love Ipernity. Why do you like it ?

Friday April 11, 2008 at 07:04PM

I would like to ask my colleagues here on ipernity what they like about it.

What is what YOU like about Ipernity ?

Well, I like this community because most of the members are extremly funny, poetic, they do help if necessary... It is a pleasure of each day to enter and to realize... there is´more but I cannot tell in a foreign language. Ciao from Carla

What do you mean by friends. Since the internet era it's more and more difficult to use this words i think since somebady may have tons of "friends" on myspace without ever having seen them.

Evelyne Cole pro replies:
Do you really have to "see" your friends? Do friends need to be visible to each other? What happens if you are blind, you will never be able to see your friends, so you won't have friends? I have a lot of "friends" that I can see often enough on a regular basis, though I have a few "friends" on IP that I never saw, may be will never see, but they mean much more to me and to whom I feel much closer because we communicate and know often each other better. Like in real life, in associations and clubs, you eventually choose the ones who are closer to you in mind.

For me, it's really because of the people I know here. Normally, I am too lazy to work on a blog or personal space, but there are the people I know here give me the motivation.

Yeah, that was my motivation in the beginning. Now it's even more. I discovered facts about itthat distinguish it from other communities.

Honestly? It's not blocked in China (yet), while that other infamous one is.

I don't use flickr, because it's too slow to open in China. As for facebook, well, I feel like someone stirring inside my head whenever I see their web pages.

Ipernity is more community-driven, I think.

I hate too big communities, as the friendly mood changes when there are too many members. ipernity is still in the beginnings, and you can feel that.

The Bobster says:
I was intrigued to discover this site. My answers:

1. I like the fact that people are from a lot of diferent countries. I'm American, so I'm especially fascinated by the distinct sensibility of many of the Europeans I see here. And the language barrier (for me) is not so large as I'd have expected, as most of us speak a bit of English, even if if it's not a first language for many.

2. There seem to be a few professionals, or those aspiring to it, but most of us seem to be aficianados who care a lot and want improve on what they are doing, and I'd say the majority of people seem to have a serious artistic intent.

3. There's a very supportive atmosphere, where people are keen to help each other learn more and are appreciative in a positive way of other's efforts, especially when the style is much different from one's own. This is important to me because I do consider myself a novice, and I'm here to learn perhaps a little more than to share.

4. I like the look of the pages. Framing and visual context are a plus and I just think my photos look a little better when i view them on this site (especially in slideshow mode) than they do in other venues.

5. There are some really great features, and I haven't taken advantage of all of them yet. For instance, although I don't enjoy chat mode as much as I did a few years ago, it's nice that the option is there, and that I can say something RIGHT NOW to one of the friends I've made here if perhaps I'd like some advice and they happen to be online.

6. Did I mention the sense of community? Let me do so again. I've made some really good netpals in the last couple of months and I look forward to making more.

I'm very happy here.

(Um, gee, you probably didn't expect such a long response ... couldn't help myself, and I'm not sorry.)

Bravo Bobster, you have a very good appreciative summary of IP. People here are certainly the way you said. We are more than a web group, we are an international family which cares for each other.
