seems like I'll have to perform (or partecipate) in an exhibition by playing, say hitting, oil bins - yes those used for petrol & co ... Now this is a nice chance but I have no or little clue about how to work with such stuff (I've played simply drums, so far).

Any suggestions about how to make it interesting? tonal changes, different sticks, playing techniques, materials, junk stuff... anything is appreciated : )

Lodi, Chiostro Palazzo sede della Provincia. Sono lì per allestire lo spettacolo 'Moove me' di Marcella Fanzaga (danza) e Gianni Mimmo (sax). Come spesso capita, ne approfitto per fare qualche scatto, sia come semplice archivio della memoria sia perchè quello che vedo può essere interessante.
"Perchè fai le foto?" mi chiede una persona, "perchè mi piace fotografare" rispondo io... cos'altro dovevo dire? Mah.

Moove Me

I'm there tonight setting up the stage for 'Moove Me', improvising show of music and dance. As often happens, I take a chance to make some shoot. Both as a simple archive and because what I see could be interesting. "Why do you take pictures?" someone asks me, "because I like taking pictures" I answer... should I have said something smarter?

 

ok, è l'ultimo giorno in studio.
ho perso il treno delle 8:22 perchè... non c'era il treno delle 8:22 :-|
si ripiega sull'8:58, a bologna farà già caldo.
ultima colazione 'stilosa' (mi ero abituato troppo bene..?) in un bar fichissimo di via Bassi. ultimo passaggio sul tram 25.
si finisce un po' prima nel pomeriggio, e ho completato il sound design / resync di quei 4'35" del montaggio nuovo.
ci è voluto un giorno di lavoro...
ritorno in stazione con passaggio macchina, discutendo di estetica musicale, conservazione urbanistica e Calvino.

 

 

ok this is the last day in the studio.
missed the 8.22 train because... there was no 8.22 train :-|
have to wait for the 8.58, bologna will be already hot.
last 'stylish' breakfast (did i get used too well..?) in a cool bar on the main street.
last trip on line 25.
we end a little earlier than usual. and i completed the resync on those 4'35" from the new cut.
was worth a day of work.
get back to station by car, talking about town planning conservation and italian literature.

oggi mi sentivo un po' un centralinista. motivo, chiamare una lunga lista di doppiatori per un lavoro in agosto. attenda in linea prego.
nel frattempo ho cominciato a mettere le mani a una breve sequenza di sound design -quella di ieri- pesantemente fuori sincrono dopo l'ultima versione del montaggio video.
ma la sera arriva troppo presto, temo dovrò continuare domani.

 

today i felt quite like an operator on switchboard : )

due calling a list of speakers, to organize a dubbing session later in august. please hold the line.
meanwhile i started working on a short sequence of sound designing -the one from yesterday- which was out of sync (not to say completely different) after the latest video cuts.
but evening breaks so fast that i'll have to continue tomorrow. friday never hesitate...

in pratica la mattina se n'è andata cercando di utilizzare la magnifica opzione 'importa i gruppi regione'...
dovevo lavorare su una breve porzione della colonna audio, quindi avevamo gruppato solo le regioni interessate, e sarebbe stato semplice importarle con l'allineamento corretto in una nuova sessione. invece no.
PT vuole importare TUTTO dalla sessione di riferimento!
non chiederti il perchè.

 

almost the whole morning faded out trying to use the magnificent "export/import region groups" feature...
i had to work out a small portion of the soundtrack, so we created a region group of that, and it should have been easy to import those regions, aligned and in sync, on a new lighter session.
that hasn't been.
PT wants to import ALL of the stuff from the big session!
don't ask yourself why.

oggi sono andato a recuperare del materiale su HD -anzi ho preso proprio IL disco- con il montato (si spera) definitivo. 40 minuti a piedi (sola andata)!
poco male, ne ho approfittato per godermi la giornata.
completata l'analisi del routing di questa -enorme- sessione.
completato anche il sound design delle scene con i computer.
uno strano effetto tornare a casa per le 21 :-|

today i've been busy collecting an external HD with some stuff from the final cut. a 40 minutes walk!
not bad, i just enjoyed the time outdoor.
completed routing analysis of this <huge> session.
also completed sound designing on scenes showing computers.
feels weird getting home before 9PM...

archivio sessioni passate protools magicamente scomparso nel nulla... non è gravissimo, ma è una gran seccatura...
tentativi di esportazione filmato DV in versione più leggera: ci vuole troppo tempo! proviamo con la versione full size.
il sistema brancola a tratti, ma dopo un paio di aggiustamenti sembra stabile.
doppiaggio in arrivo nel pomeriggio, per delle voci mancanti nel mix finale e una prova di 'acclimatamento' degli attori.
cena modesta ma sufficiente; sospetto un problema idraulico nella mia stanza.

PT sessions archive magically vanished in the air... isn't really serious, though a big fuss.
attempting to export DV movie in a lighter format: too much time! let's try with the full size file.
the machine doesn't react very well, but after a couple of fixing seems stable.
voice dubbing in the afternoon, for some missing voices and a "warm up" rehearsal for the actors, before the real dubbing takes place later on.
unpretentious dinner, though enough; i'm afraid there's a plumber issue going on in my place.

giornata non molto impegnativa, ma prolifica. alcuni dettagli da ritoccare completare o realizzare ex novo (principalmente suoni di computer e tastiera/mouse); registrazione di alcuni effetti sonori non soddisfacenti; registrazione di voci in conversazione da tenere poi in sottofondo per un ufficio.
studio del routing (complesso!) di questa sessione protools, e un tentativo abbozzato di renderla udibile sull'altro sistema privo del 5.1
ritorno a casa a piedi; in serata, pioveva. mi son ripromesso di fare un po' di spesa per domani, di modo da avere qualcosa da mangiare quando torno.
sonno a tradimento a metà serata ma bene accolto.

not a very hard day, though fruitful. some details to correct, complete, or create (mainly pc and keyboard/mouse sounds); foley effects re-recording (paper boards, cutters); background office voices recording.
session routing analysis (intricate) and trying to make it sound on this other system without 5.1 monitoring, folding back to mono.
walk back home, it  rained in the evening. promised to do some food essential shopping tomorrow.
soon fell asleep early in the night. good.
 

La settimana scorsa il G5 aveva fatto i capricci, ci è toccato smontarlo e ripristinare più tardi in mattinata il sistema completo. = perdita di tempo!

Last week the G5dual didn't cooperate so we had to remove it, and restore the whole sistem later in the morning. = a loss of time!

 

whee... been in Lausanne this weekend, partly working & partly enjoying with people I happened to know there.

great concert to record @ Chorus jazz club, and awesome city! I've been there before some 15 years ago but didn't remember almost anything (besides it rained a lot), so it was a surprise, twice.

one of the (fairly) big towns that make me want to live there. and they're not many.

that is, after some... years... of my oold faithful keyboard telling me 'internal battery low' - i haven't used it that much anymore, indeed - and a couple of previous (failed) attempts, today i tried again to remove the backpanel (lots of screws!). Such operation never seemed easy, but today the bottom plate slipped away in a second, and voilà, all the circuitry was looking at me.

 

Now i'd just need a new battery... (until 2020)

..or so Creedence Clearwater Revival used to say..

i don't mind, tonight i saw one of the biggest quarter-moon ever, so dark, so red, grainy, low on the horizon.

wish i had a camera with me, but then it'd be a crappy compact digital so - i don't have any equipment to take night moon pictures - it's better this way. figure it out ; )

...i haven't done anything yet! but i'm just taking time, looking around meanwhile.

may be silent but idle, not yet.
