Bye bye Flickr

Thursday April 24, 2008 at 09:28PM

Somehow it's sad, but all my Flickr pictures will soon be gone.

You really want to delete these 200 things? They will be gone forever, and cannot be recovered.

YES, GO AHEAD

Are you really, really sure you want to delete these 200 things? They will be gone forever, and cannot ever be recovered.

YES, GO AHEAD

Actually I'm not sure, but at least there's no way back ^^

Whatever, it's time to say bye-bye 1 1/2 year photography

What should I say: I left there 3 pix, and I am shure that they should reside on this storage till there is no current in this data centre....

Pfuh!

Good for you, Don. Flickr's owner - Yahoo - now requires that you enroll in it's "Yahoo Wallet" payment service just to buy an upgrade to "Pro". Phooey!

Don Andre pro replies:
Is that really true? That would be outrageous

Well, I attempted to pay with a credit card through my third-party escrow account ("PayPal"), and Yahoo still insists that one complete their 'Yahoo Wallet' registration form, likely in order to "mine" you for spending-pattern data, demographics, etc, and to deluge you with "offers".

I don't want Yahoo's hand in my pocket, or long nose at my window...

you did. it's nice here :-) (i left Yahoo's Version of FlickR 10 months ago, when they locked out german users from Pictures that showed the sligtest bit of nudity.)

I basically left it in September 2007 after my Pro Account expired, but I still had all the pictures there. I tried to go ipernity and flickr in parallel, but somehow I couldn't commit myself to such separation. Whatever I get comments, visits and views here as well and this is still independent and cosy place with a lot of direct communication with the creators which I think makes it special to be here.

well, i left my 200 photos there and i still get some comments, but ipernity is definitely my home for 9 months now

Yahoo! really sucks, and it really rubbed off on Flickr; the censorship controversy was the last straw for me and I erased both my Flickr and Yahoo! accounts. The wallet thing just sounds like more desperate Yahoo! crap. Bye-bye flickr, I don't miss you.
