Porn Makes You Stupid

Thursday August 26th, 2010 at 10:48PM

From UncoveredBeauty.com

"I've never been comfortable in my own skin. I've never been able to accept a compliment and be okay with it. I have a hard time accepting my nudity as something other than a man's pleasure because I've only ever known men to want to see a woman naked for the purpose of being pleased sexually."

- K

K went on to tell me that she thinks many women feel this way. How did we get here? Is this what we're teaching our children?

Nudity is not inherently related to sexuality. However, in our society the prevalence of pornographic images creates an implicit connection between nudity and sex in the minds of most people. I believe that feelings of guilt, shame, and embarrassment associated with sexual insecurity are transfered to nudity in this fashion.

This is stupid.

The human body is a marvelous and beautiful creation - a perfect wedding of form and function. A work of art unto itself.

Through my 9 years of work in the fine art nude genre, I've encountered the full gamut of opinions on the subject. Some people classify the images as pornographic, and therefore disapprove. Others classify them as pornographic but approve wholeheartedly. But thankfully, most people recognize my stumbling attempts at art for that they are: clumsy and imperfect attempts to portray the beauty that is Woman.

As you browse the galleries on this site, I invite you to explore your own views on the subject of nudity in art. Is nudity always erotic? Can we appreciate a woman for her beauty, distinct from her sexuality? And if we can't, is that OK?

I grapple with this everytime I put a camera up to my face. It is sad the way the world has become. That a nude woman is dirty and somehow slutty. The masters would be turning in their graves. It is one of the MAIN reasons I am here. Tired of the censorship on Flickr. Thought I would try my hand here where the art seems to be more pure and the intentions sincere.

What I find offensive about Flickr is the total lack of ethics. The place is full of hard core cum on your face homemade porn snaps, totally devoid of any artistic merit, useful only as spanking material, if that. Having to flag my photos as moderate, and post only to moderate and restricted groups means I'm constantly running into those porn circles.

There should be a way for artists to display their work, even it it contains some nudity, without having to constantly run into close-up boner photos.

The only thing to do is keep shooting, and keep sharing. People need to learn how to tell the different between artistic nudity, and pornographic nudity.
