Adventures

The last 2 days were very untypical for my life here in France: I had the chance (??) to discover the functionning of the French SAMU and cardiological emergency. And this happened like this:

I woke up very early on Monday morning with strong compression and pain in my breast. After some time I had to get up, and .....fell down with a very strong pain on the lower part of my back (www.ipernity.com/doc/14542/777394). I couldn't move anymore, so I decided to call the emergency. But first, I had to care for my son, who was already very afraid. I called a friend who was nice enough to get him and bring him to school.

Then, I called the emergency and told of my back problems and pain in the breast. They only heard "pain in the breast" and sent the fireworkers, who, in France have a very important task in the emergency system.

So they arrived, put me an oxygen mask on the face and my poor little son saw all this and was even more afraid. Fortunately, my friend came and took care of him and brought him to school.

The fireworkers, then , decided together with the doctor who had arrived as well, to take me to the next hospital. Unfortunately, no hospital next to my place would accept me, only a clinic specialised in cardiology about 40 km away. So, they got me into the ambulance, and started a long journey through the Paris suburbs....the motorways were all packed, they decided to take the small roads.

I can tell you, the towns do not care for the poor sick people needing transportation in an ambulance: my back hurt at every bump, and the doctor who accompanied me, got even sick....

When we arrived at the hospital after about 40 minutes, they did of course a lot of tests, x-rays, and other exams, but they couldn't find anything. I stayed there for hours, waiting to be transfered to the cardiology for further tests, and as they still didn't find anything, but my breast still hurt, they decided to do a angiogram and simultaneously prepared a coronary angioplasty (hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/coronary_angioplasty.html).

They opened the artery on the right arm, and entered a very small tube which allowed the repairing device to approach the heart. Fortunately, my heart is in perfect shape, and they didn't have to repair anything!

The afternoon was very boring: no information on what would happen now, but suddenly a doctor arrived in my room, telling me that they would x-ray my lungs for a second time. Then, if there would be no problem, I could go home. They very obviously needed the room. Good thing for me, and for the guy who really needed the room: they made me leave very quickly, and at 5.30 PM, I was outside in the wind and rain, waiting for the bus to bring me to the train station.

The trip home took me 2,5 hours.....but it was nice to find the chaos in my flat, my two cats, and my own bed again.

Well, but I still do not know, where the breast pain comes from....

My camera is broken.... I feel amputated

No pics with my Canon at the moment, got to take it to the shop next week. It seems to be a mechanical problem: the shutter doesn't close anymore. I got beautiful black pictures. I hope they can repair it quickly, as I need it for a short trip to Bruges on the 1st of February.

Sorry!

I'm not very active these days, commenting on your pix, but I got a very "important" date to keep: presentation of my Canada photos to my mom and a friend next week, and, an even more important task: not neglect my "better half", and THIS is all a program!

Sometaimes, strike days do have something positive!!!!

Anyway, I except the real horror tomorrow, when all the people who had taken their day off, hurry to the train station again....but there will still be no train......

I did it...

... again!

I finally decided to take all my pictures from F...to Ipernity. Actually I had intended to do it gradually and select the only best ones, but in the end, lazyness took over and made me accelerate the process: All set to "Private" and here we go.

Goodness, there will be a lot to sort....

1st school day in "La grande école"

Today was the first day of the "Grande école" for my son. "Grande école" for small kids in French kindergardens mean that they are finally in Primary school, where they will learn reading and writing and lots of other skills.

I had the day off in order to organize the school year, which takes more than a day here, because all activities need to be planned at the beginning of the school year.

At 4h30, I took him at school, and got back an exhausted little boy.

The difference of school between what my son lives now and what I lived 40 years ago is quite amazing: during the first few days, I had just 2 hours of school, whereas he has had 5 hours of school for already 2 years....

Lots of work

Coming back from a trip is never relaxing: wasching, ironing, cleaning the appartment, WORKING (which is the worst), and indeed, I'm already tired again, esp. as there is not only the usual stuff - washing and ironing - but also caring for the man  ;-))

Anyway, there are so many things going on at the moment: the appartment is being renovated as well, but this does not only mean the tapestry, but holes in the wall for the new kitchen bar, new internet connections (therefore no internet for 4 weeks and no phone for more than 8..), new furniture in the kitchen, and lots of big boxes going out and nobody knows where to stock them. A major problem ...

Short: Everything is fine and business as usual!

Perhaps, I'll find some more time now to come along and have a look at your pictures!

Back home again....and finally INTERNET

Our trip to Toronto and the canadian Rockies has been a wonderful experience, and I brought back about 16 Gb of images, all waiting to be looked throuhg (well, to be eranest, there won't be more than about 50 really - REALLY good (if I'm lucky), but they all represent wonderful moments I loved in a wonderful country....

And what is event better, this night, suddenly, after 4 weeks without internet, it came suddenly back! A miracle......

Decision

I just decided to go to wrok: transfer gradually all my favorite pics on F***r to Ipernity.

Being on the site for 5 days by now, I see that my network is developping fine. Lots of my contacts are already here, so it is not really starting over again, as I feared at the beginning.

Now, there's lots of work to be done for the next few months, until my Flickr Pro account will be closed.
