thieves?

Monday November 19, 2007 at 09:46AM

arrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhh i remember something like that on fuckr: someone opened account only to steal pics :/

www.ipernity.com/doc/mad.melon/996953  you can see here :/ and i'm not the only one probably!

i could understand asking "can i use your pic" first, but not something like that...

błech! błech! błech!!!

have a nice day and week!!

Roberto Ballerini - travelingpro says:
For what I can understand, it isn't a thievery: this is a bookmarking site, as de.li.cio.us, specialized in shots; it is a way for this person to simply find again a shot he likes and there is the link back to your page

There is one of mine too (curiously the link back is to another one: pixrat.ibibo.com/picture/tag?id=roberto+ballerini&opt=tag&commit=Search

If you don't want it anyway, there is a Report Abuse button

i agree with Roberto, it's not actual stealing. if you have an account here you have the option of publishing your or other photos in a blog. but only then. signing up just to have a free photo source probably isn't illegal (even with all (c) restricitions) but it's a matter of good behaviour to ask. pixrat is a bookmarking site but it's publishing your photo on another place (even if it's just a thumbnail) so it's published without your agreement. regarding the way internet works today i think this a borderline case and only to solve with a discussion.

Not stealing? Well, I think it's stealing, because Holly makes believe on pixRAT that the photos are hers.

well, every morning before i post i ask myself if i am a stupid idiot for publishing to the web...now that we are indexed on google as i've wished for, the chance of theft increases but so does the chance that i'll get some recognition. it's a gamble but to me it feels worth the risk. in the US personal copyrights belong to the author for their life span and 75 years beyond. Before the internet I'd always thought that if i got any recognition it would be after I died. With the internet I can work on my legacy and hope it pays off sooner.
AND I get recognition from all of you which is great!

I'm sorry you're upset Magda. But even with anti - right click I'm told stealing can still be accomplished. I've seen my blog content as phony spam blog content. It hurts, I know. And i reported it. But really it's a chance we take on the web. It's a bigger version of the real world.

I've never quite understood why pro members get the privelege of downloading other's full files. That seems a bit odd to me. but it's a whole different issue I know.

Oki, I'm not sure how I feel about this though but I have a few question, if anybody knows... First, how do you find if out that your picture is there (as I can see it, Roberto didn't have a comments from Holly-Molly-Dolly -Nolly on his pic).
And second, I noticed both Roberto and Magda have the "other options" at their pictures - I dunno if its on mine pics - but it does have a "blog this" option... Perhaps its possible to turn this off at one's setting? (like I said, I dunno if it shows on my pics for others).
It doesn't make it less impolite to not ask before though ...

I was still thinking about this on my way home from work and this is why I think this bookmarking site is more than 'bookmarking'. There are people who are using these sites to 'bookmark' our work and in doing so they: show our work in an account we know nothing about, arrange our work in albums, and,

these people receive votes and comments for OUR work in their 'bookmarking' account.

Personally, I don't care that the bookmarking site links back to ipernity, flickr, pbase, photonet, zoomer etc. and may therefore be complying with the policies of ipernity etc., For me it's a site that is unethical in that it is encouraging and facilitating people to receive comments and votes on work that does not belong to them. And for this reason I really hope that the Ipernity Team can do something to block user activity from that site.

i changed status of my photo to "shared with friends&family", so the link from pixRAT only works for those who are in my network, but is not accessible to stranger.
it's a pity honest IP-members won't be able to see it.
but those who don't want their photos linked like that, could consider doing the same thinh. which means less comments, less hits, less faves...

There is no deal between ipernity and Pixrat, we are not involved in Pixrat and we do not support Pixrat activities.

Bookmarking is a common practice on Internet.

However, we've sent a message to Pixrat, asking them how an ipernity member could prevent bookmarking of his/her pictures by Pixrat.

We'll keep you informed.

I agree that this is a problem. As a private user I have no idea what is the sense behind this grabbing-activity. Grabbing pictures to an indian Website????

On Flickr I had the same problems finding some of my pictures on an african website.

For me as an ipernity user it is very important, that my pics cannot be grabbed by any bot, or person without my permission. And I really hope (and im shure) that Team Iper will find a solution for all this in the future :-)

Here is a reply we've just received from Pixrat. Apparently, there is no automatic way to prevent bookmarking of copyrighted pictures, but you can send Pixrat and email and they'll remove the related bookmarks. On the other hand, I've just deleted an ipernity account created only for Pixrat bookmarking. If you see accounts like that, feel free to inform us. Hope it could help. Christian

Hi Christophe

Pixrat is a social picture bookmarking site. It allows users to bookmark their favorite images from the web. However we don't store the original image but just a small thumbnail for preview. Also we link back to the original site from where it was bookmarked from. But having said that, we also respect privacy and copyright concerns of the owners of photos and take steps immediately to address concerns as and when it is brought to our notice, since it is impossible for us to determine the copyright issues programmatically.

We completely understand your concern and appreciate that you have brought this to our notice. We have removed the specific bookmark.

Please feel free to write to us anytime you have any queries or concerns.

Thanks and Regards,

Pixrat Team.

me
hello!
in fact there was more than one... i really don't think is legal... i mean your page is encouraging people to post otehrs pics on your page. what is worse my picture can be bookmarked, voted for by any other users... and credits goes to molly, holly or others...
in my opinion your page makes stealing other people work much easier...
and if i want to "bookmark" something i'm using my browser. and if i need socializing i meet my friends or join community like ipernity.
that's not only MY opinion. thank you!
