Cool architecture

On my second day in Fukuoka I spent my time visiting some more architectural marvels.

There was Canal City. a shopping mall and hotel complex modelled on the sandstone canyons of the american west.

and then on to Acros

and then out to a man-made island with a remarkable structure named "Grin Grin"

Of course I visited shrines and temples, including the first Zen temple in Japan

several shopping malls....

and did a little research on winter fashions in Japan...

You could of course view the whole slideshow of 422 photos

An afternoon in Fukuoka

The slideshow is now complete

Between Christmas and New Year I took a quick trip down to Fukuoka, the largest city on Kyushu, a place that rightfully has gotten a reputation for its architecture.

I arrived at the trains station at noon and headed first for the Momichi area, built on reclaimed land.

My first stop was the Fukuoka Tower, but on the way I passed through a museum and a library

I went up the tower and then passed through a kind of HiTech area of technology companies , many with cool architecture.

Next was the amazing JAL Seahawk hotel

and next to it Yahoo Dome.

Nearby was Hawks Town, a shopping Mall.

Then it was over to the original Fukuoka Tower in Bayside.

faster & faster

I'm uploading pics at a faster rate now in an attempt to decrease my backlog.

As you know, my modus operandi is to take a lot of pics quickly.

I recently spent a weekend in Fukuoka. I took 1,000 photos, 96% of which I will post. As an experiment I recently uploaded a whole album in one day. Most of the pics have hardly been viewed. I did learn this....

Most of my viewers are anonymous.l

Many viewers just look at the latest 3-6 pics.

A few of you go through and at least scan what I've uploaded since the last visit.

I can only repeat that the best way to view is by album slideshow.

Have you tried the new version of slideshow?

Thanks for your time that you give in views, comments, and faves.

Season's greetings and best wishes for the new year!

Once again I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for the encouragement that comes from your visits to my stream.

Thanks also for your streams!

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that viewing everyone else's vision as expressed through their streams has contributed greatly to expanding my own vision. What a generous gift.

I don't want to single anybody out, but I do enjoy the streams by people who post LOTS of pics. :)

Ho Ho Ho!

Crash!!!!!update

My computer has crashed, so I will be off line for a while :(

hopefully I can recover the thousands of photos on the harddrive.

Well, its not as bad as it firste seemed.

I have a lot of older stuff backed up on CD, and the most recent stuff I recovered from my cameras memory sticks.

It seems that thousands of photos are still on my crashed computers hardisk and I'm assured that for a price I can get them back.....

So I continuie uploading :)

A change of strategy

I've changed my posting strategy as my backlog of photos is getting too big. Usually I have been uploading about 15 photos a day, but now I've upped it to 20 or so. However, some of the photos are set as private so they are invisible to you. Once they reach the second page then I make them public. For those of you that go past the first page will see them. Viewing the album slideshow is the proper way to view them anyway :)

I've also started posting more photos out of sequence as I need them for my blog

More Gimpses of Unfamiliar Japan

My initial reason for joing flickr, and then ipernity, was to host my photos for my intended blog.

I've made a new album Blogged and all the photos in the album have the link to the relevant blog post.

As always I am humbled by your visits, kind comments, and faves. Thanks :)

My eye.

I rarely get comments on my photographic skill!..... which is as it should be, as my photographic skills are rudimentary at best.

My photos aren't about photography, they are about seeing.

And that is what I get most comments on, my "eye".

Let me clarify. I take photos of whatever strikes my eye. Notice the object versus subject! My eye is passive. Its a form of non-seeing. I wouldn't see if I was busy looking. Can't see the wood for the trees.

If I look for beauty in flowers, naked women, sunsets, etc then I am missing 99% of the beauty that surrounds me.

Anyway, I suspect I owe my "eye" to having spent most of my life as a painter.

I was a very prolific painter, and the total of my works ran into the tens of thousands.

I sold a lot, so probably there are still some of my works hanging on various walls around the planet, but the vast majority of my paintings no longer exist. Once a painting was finished, it was no longer important to me.

Which brings me to my latest uploads. I recently discovered a box of slides of a selection of my artworks. Quickly scanned them and uploaded them. They may give a clue to my "eye". They are in my Paintings album.

The curious case of the 2nd most viewed photo

This is my second-most viewed photo on ipernity. It has been viewed more than 1100 times! Obviously it has been blogged, but I can't find out where.

Is there an easy way to discover where it is blogged?

I'm now getting into my own blog. It has been said that I don't supply enough information about my pics, so I am now addressing that issue by going back to the start of my stream and writing blogs.

So far I've finished blogs for the first album I uploaded to ipernity, One Day In Izumo , so if you now view most photos in the album they have links to blog entries.

Just like to say thanks to those of you that do take the time to delve "upstream" to view my earlier photos.

Request for help!

I have finally taken the plunge and set up a blog and am bewidered by the amount of options available.

ojisanjake.blogspot.com

I would really appreciate hearing from any experienced bloggers who could offer me feedback, advice, suggestions, or tips about layout, what to include, how to increase traffic etc etc.

The first blogs I've posted are about the photos in the first album I uploaded to ipernity, One Day In Izumo

Most of you have probably not seen the album, so when you have 15 minutes to spare (there are 250 photos) try viewing it as a slideshow.

Cheers, and thanks in advance.

Odds and sods

I've mentioned before that I find the emphasis on the "new" to be somewhat of a tyranny. In terms of sites like ipernity it means that older photos simply don't get seen. Charp has started a group that deals with this.

Vide-grenier/Garage Sale

To quote from the groups homepage. "Internet is the world of the short-lived. Here on Ipernity, new pictures drive old ones away, in the dark depths where nobody can see them anymore. :-) This group intends to react against this tragedy by bringing some of them out of oblivion. Pay attention to the rules. Their goal is to slow oblivion here! ;-)"

So, those of you who have been here on ipernity for more than 6 months, its a place to post those "oldies but goodies", and for newer members its a place to view some great photos.

Molnar

The last sequence of photos I uploaded were taken on a weekend last October. One of my little businesses that I am trying to build up is as a tour guide. I'm interested in taking people "off the beaten track" in Japan to see and experience a side of Japan that tourists rarely see. The Molnar's were an American couple I took around for a few days. We visited Izumo Taisha, Hinomisaki Jinja, Tatamigaura, the bridge at Aquas, and a festival in Gotsu.

The new sequence I'm uploading were taken on my lunchbreak. You probably havent noticed, but on Wednesdays (Tuesdays for most of your timezone) I post fewer pictures, because thats the one day a week I go to Hamada to work.
