Google Translate + ipernity = new power "translate" feature

Tuesday July 8, 2008 at 01:18PM

ipernity is proud to enable the first social mashup of the brand new Google Translate API.

Members and visitors can now request "on the fly" translations of posts, comments, discussions, descriptions, iperMails... written in foreigner languages*.

Translation is made from/into 23 languages*. Of course, automated translation is not perfect but we are convinced it brings ipernity members and visitors a real added value for a global understanding.

Thanks to this new feature, ipernity becomes the first social internet media facilitating exchanges between people from various horizons ;-)

(*) Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish. Esperanto and Catalan are not yet supported by Google Translate. We'll add these languages as soon as we find translation services with free API use.

I saw it and admired it, but of course it's not ... (hmmm) perfect yet :-DD

It works fine here :-)

Christophe Ruellepro replies:
Not sure it will be perfect one day - unless translation will become useless and everyone will speak esperanto ;)
Until this day... I'm still impressed by the general qualiy of the translation.

unfortunatly I couldn't get traduku.net to fit our needs - maybe it's just a bug - I'll take some time in the future to contact them.
Apertium looks great. Thanks for the link.
I'm a bit afraid of the Unstable state of the project. Did you try it, what do you think ?

Paŭl Peeraertspro replies:
I did try the Spanish-Esperanto version. It is rather good. Far from perfect, but you can understand the meaning. There is only one minor point. Spanish speaking people often "forget" the diacritics, e.g. they write "invitacion" instead of "invitación". The Apertium translator does not understand the words without diacritics. So if the Spanish members want to be understood by the "aliens", they should write more carefully ;-)
¡Ánimo y adelante, amigos españoles!

Christophe Ruellepro replies:

Venti - 文缇pro replies:
Bonjour Christophe,
