Improvements! Améliorations !

Thursday November 15, 2007 at 02:37PM

[EN] We've just put online some improvements! We hope you'll enjoy them ;-)

Recent activity
The "Activity" page has totally been redesigned. Information is now grouped by posts/docs and several time frames are available. Let's try it!
=> My Space / Recent activity

("since your last connection" time frame will be effective in 3 hours)

DocManager / Groups
A "Groups" folder has been added to the DocManager. You can now easily add/remove docs to/from your groups by drag'n drop.
=> My Space / DocManager

Blogs
The right column of each post shows now a list of previous/next posts (rather than a calendar).

Doc selection
We've added a useful search function to make doc selection easier in such cases: inserting a doc inside a post, using a photo as your homepage background...

Member tag
You can now remove your own member tag added by another member to someone's doc.

=> Mon espace / DocManager

Blogs

ok i don't particularly like the new layout. i signed in tonight and went to check the Activity page... and i have 18 freaking pages of activity?!. Guys, i'm sorry but i don't need to know what happened 2 weeks ago. too much, too confusing. i don't like it. and what happened to the "replies to your comments" feature, i loved that one. the old layout was better. easier. more simple.

actually the new layout is soooo much like Flickr and i really don't like it. two things that would improve it...

1) just show recent activities (i don't need to know what happened a week ago, that's too much).
2) let us have the "replies to your comments" back please, that's what made it so personal. that's the reason i love Ipernity, it was so person and laid back. now i'm starting to get flickr. flashbacks lol!

rafpro replies:
after next logging in all the activity pages will disappear, only new ones will be visible.
replies: on your homepage click: activity>your comments> and then in right upper corner click 'only direct replies'. enjoy!

no i'm sorry, this new layout isn't as good at the old one. sorry guys, for me it's no improvement. not the simple clean style it was before :-(
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
MacKeypro says:
can't there be the option of switching to the old layout style? please guys :-D
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Christophe Ruellepro replies:
Hello MacKey,
honestly I don"t see any advantage to switch back to the old layout.
The new layout shows the same information, grouped by document,
Instead of having 3 cathegories : comments, tags, faves - you now have the 3 grouped for each doc.
The only thing that was missing was the direct replies, which is now an option in the "your comments" page.
Please let me know what you really miss now and we'll do our best to satisfy you.

the sorting in "Recent activity"-"In your space" is strange

the favorites are in chronological order (earliest to latest)
beneath the comments are in inverse chronological order (latest to earliest)
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Christophe Ruellepro replies:
about different orders :
- the best order is newest first, oldest last. this is for faves, tags.
- but comments are always more comprehensible oldest first newest last.
if it's really disapointing we can order everything like comments.
I think we made the clever choices...

Charppro says:
Kbozen is right: it's a little strange those different orders...

But I'm not here for that, but for congratulate the team for having so quickly make the little change that makes everything great. So quickly, and so exactly what some of us ask for. I'm amazed...

Thanks everybody!!

You guys are fast- thank you for the little tweaks and changes. Now I don't feel like being back in Flickr anymore! ;-)

I like the way one can see direct responses now and STILL read whole conversations. Well done, thank you!

Oddur Jonssonpro says:
I like the old layout better, but I might get used to this one. Still think it would be better when I choose "Your comments" to have "Direct replies only" active instead of "All comments". I get a 3 weeks old comment on top and 10 comments that follow, none of them a reply to my comment. It is just taking up space for me. I have to browse through 10 pages to see the same thing as I see on the first one in the "Direct replies only".
I also would like a button in the group pages "Your pictures" to see if, and then what pictures I have put in the group I'm browsing :o)

I don't know if there's a bug, but there are shown 387 pages of answers to my comments ... "since my last login". no, that's too much for me ... I'l go back to bed again! :-))

Yes it's a bug. don't know why the last login date is still wrong. Will be fixed soon.

I've read everything now .. and I'm not sure if I should use the reply button or not. I have to think it over!

i'm sorry the new layout downright sucks, that's just my opinion. like a said, the new layout is way too confusing and cluttered in my opinion. i just signed in this morning and i went to the Activity page and i still get comments and favs from days and weeks ago.... i do not want that, it's too confusing and totally unnecessary. to be honest i no longer know what happened on my page, i can't tell. there were still 17 freaking pages to go through, what's with that? do i have to go through all my pages and photos in order to to see if anything new happened? and can we please have this order with everything... newest first and latest last. i really would prefer the old layout. it was cleaner and simpler. this new layout is too much Flickr. please do not become like Flickr.

i'm sorry i want the old layout style. it would be so great if people could just chose for themselves which one of the two they'd want the most.
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Christophe Ruellepro replies:
Hello MacKey, sorry this is a bug! normally you should only see the latest comments (since 12 or 24h). The "since your last login" does not work as it should. Please change the time frame manually and let me know if you like this layout a little more ;)
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
MacKeypro replies:
well that sorted out that out, but i still like the old one way better. i agree with Annjin, too much. the old layout was simple and easy. it provided me with the info i wanted, nothing more, nothing less. and that's all i really want. also the old felt more personal in a way. i'm sorry guys, i want the old one back :-D come one just make the exception for me then?! lol! no seriously, the new layout has not given me anything more or better, or rather it's given me nothing i can use or will use.
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Annjin replies:
I'm starting to get the hang of it, lol :D MacKey, try change the time frame in recent activity, then it looks normal. In the "your comments" section - there's the neat "direct replies only". With those two, I think, it looks more as before ... ;p
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
MacKeypro replies:
Annjin :-) i did all that and you're right this sorts out the bug problem for now and we still have the "replies to your comments" (actually thank you for that guys). however, i still want the old layout :-) *stomps feet* i want it! lol!
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Annjin replies:
but you won't get it ... tstk tsk, stop stomping :DDDD Nah, it's good now I think just different. Now, can I have that Pony !!
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Annjin says:
First, thank so much for adding the "direct replies only" option - that was the one I've been missing! Thank you, kindly!!!!

As for the general "in your space" its a lot of information there - a little too much... Like, one of my blog posts is more or less repeated as a whole in the "in your space" section, with all comments made including my own. This is a bit unnecessary methinks as I can just click to my blog when I want to read it all again....But it might be a bug as I see comments made days & weeks ago on my pictures too not just those actually made since my last log in ... ?

The new solution is perfect for me because I want to communicate about my and other photos and read comment tracks in context.

One more time: Flickr was not bad because of the layout. They were ignorant and didn't communicate.
And a good comment track isn't bad because it is close to Flickr.

MacKeypro says:
OK OK the new layout is growing on me :-)

but then i was thinking of something else. really hasn't got anything to do with the old vs. new layout, but i was thinking if it's possible to come up with a feature that allows me to post a photo and make it available for viewing only by Ipernity members? i mean instead of having to make my whole contact list a friend or family member, then what else can i do? It's just some photos i don't want to be viewed by outside people. also the feature of making a photo available to your contact list only, that would be cool too :-)
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
MacKeypro says:
OK i thought of another feature. one of the Flickr features i actually really like... when you're on someone's stream viewing their photos and you click on one to view it and to see the comments, and possibly to make a comment yourself, then afterwards you can't get back to the browsing site you were on. a browse feature would be great. so you don't have to go back to page 1 and start all over. if this is already possible then please explain me how, then i've missed it. :-) hope i explained it elaborately enough.

For years I had asked Flickr for an option to block conversations I did not want to follow anymore, and nothing ever happened. It took you guys only a few hours to provide that, WOW!

Did I already mention how much I love the customer service here in Ipernity? ;-)))

Merci beaucoup, thank you very much, dankeschoen!

I still like the old version MUCH better... we could see everything at once, but also separate the new activity into just comments, just favourites, just replies... and it seeed more simple overall. And I felt like I had more control over everything.

But oh well, I guess you just have to adapt sometimes or you end up like the dinosaurs. :D

Keep up the good work!

I don't know if it's the best place to post, but we talked about "index page" notion, concerning networks and groups (following link):

That would be great to make it happen!

"What's hot!" pictures are displayed according to an automatic process. Pictures in ipernity frontpage are chosen by ourselves manually. There is no link between "What's hot" and the frontpage. And there is no censorship too.

Iljuschinpro replies:
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD to know that there ist no censorship. So we could not have pressure on you, what the team do like, and what not. But maybe this pic is a good proove to show it. Or one of Soleá´s which are always in the hot list, hm?
