ipernity ouvre son capital et prépare son entrée en bourse / ipernity is opening up its share capital and is preparing to be listed on Euronext stock market

Monday April 27, 2009 at 12:13PM

[EN] Dear ipernauts,

No news from us since a long time. Now we can give you the reason: we are currently focused on a funds raising process to provide ipernity with more means, to increase its development and to make your favorite site one of tomorrow's leading Web services.

Rather than looking for venture capital, we decided to open up ipernity's share capital to French wealth taxpayers. Indeed, a new French law (named TEPA) allows French wealth taxpayers (ISF) to deduct up to 75% of their investment in small-and-medium sized companies from their total wealth tax payment.
What a great idea ;-)

Subscription (reserved for French wealth taxpayers only) is now open and will close by mid-June 2009.

In case of success, we plan to list ipernity on the NYSE-Euronext-Paris Free Market by July 2009. It will offer liquidity to shareholders and will contribute to the company's reputation.

Of course, we'll keep you informed about the results.

The message below is targeted at French wealth taxpayers (or people knowing them), inviting them to invest in ipernity.

Crossing our fingers,

Greets from the French Riviera.

Team ipernity

[FR] Chers ipernautes,

Bien cordialement,

Team ipernity

Hi
Interested to read about your capital and your plans with the stock market. I have 2 things to say

1. Photographers who accrue high levels of views, favourites, etc. should receive payment from Ipernity. Even if it is only those who are explored.
2. Please be aware that having others invest in your company may require it to alter radically. I hope that you maintain the freedom and relaxed attitude that Ipernity currently encourages. Many members have come from Flickr, who suffer from heavy and, often inappropriate levels of censorship. The artistry of members is as important as the hits that their art/photography accrues. A more business-like approach could sacrifice artistic values for monetary values. It would be a shame to see Ipernity become a place that encourages excessive nudity and artistic simplicity, just for the sake of hits and the hope that the photographer will be famous!

Good Luck
Simon

1. True if we earn money with your photos (for instance, putting ads in your pages). That's not the case in ipernity.

2. After raising funds, we'll stay independent, owning more than 3/4 of the share capital. No reason of changing our vision.

Since you mention ads in combination with our photos - are you aware how incredibly distracting those ads look on the "what"s hot" pages when you visit ipernity for the first time, and decide if you want to open an account here?

Frankly, I was shocked when I browsed the explore pages today, without being logged in, and without adblock turned on. I almost couldn't believe what I saw.

Here in the USA we see flickering, glimmering animated gifs above and below those awesome pictures (the very best of what ipernity has to offer!), and in Germany, they see ads who are completely misspelled, but at least not as ugly as the ones I see.

Yes, I agree you need to raise money, and the pro memberships don't cover the needs, but there are other ads than those - Google word ads for instance, like other photo-websites use them, because they don't take away anything of the beauty we are used to see on the front page.

Like I said, I wish you good luck in raising money, and I sure hope ipernity will be around for a long time to come! But lately I'm a bit scared of the path ipernity is taking ...

Thank you again for changing the ads to text ads!

The pages look MUCH better now, and the fast reaction is another example of the excellent customer service. I have never before experienced this kind of personal response and friendliness as here. Keep on rocking, Team ipernity! :-)

Bonne nouvelle !

Good luck on the stock market - I hope you can make the most out of your hard work!

And incidentally, here are some more thoughts about ipernity.

By the way, I only found these important ipernity news by accident, when I read my latest network report in the mail. Unfortunately, the new network pages make it next to impossible to stay updated with the stuff we care about the most.

Let us all hope you can raise capital while staying independent and as relaxed as before! Photographer are shy people and won't hesitate to change horses when the mood alters. Many of us know this personally! :)

Bonne chance!

Very pleased to hear that you are not changing your vision. Yes, excessive adverts are annoying and can lower the quality of a website.

[EN] A pity that the texts are no longer in the different languages to be translated ... Google is also, unfortunately, rarely a real help.
