Premierement je dois dire que je suis tres contente avec ipernity. Le team d'ipernity a reagi tres vite quand j' avais des problemes techniques. Continuez, vous etes super!

Chez l' "activite recente" on peut voir les commentaires qu'on a ecrit chez des autres membres d'ipernity MAIS je ne vois une possibilite facile a voir s'ily avait des reponses a ces commentaire. Peut-etre il y en a sans que je la vois?

I kind of like the idea of automatic tags generated from geotags and/or member tags. If I place something on a map, it would be nice to also get tags for the higher level geographic information, like region, country, continent... Also if I mark some member on a foto, you could add some meaningful tags like person, friend, family, ipernaut/ipernitien/whatever_we_call_us_here according to the info available.

As already mentioned:

1. Groups, of course.
2. Re-arranging albums in the Organizer (urgently needed!).
3. Autotagging module ("Autotaggr"): You give it up to 3 matching tags and it will give you some others that might fit. With one click you can accept or deny an auto-tag! World idea, I think!
4. Kind of the same thing behind the geotags: You have a pic and the system gives you suggestions BASED on the tags you gave a pic. It looks after your other pics (tags) and suggests where your pic was taken. Click "yes" or "no" and give it another place.
5. Camera finder.
6. Color finder (!). "Find a picture with 75% yellow inside ...".
7. Not only CC search (of course) but also a page where people ASK others to work with their pics (adapt on). Contests possible.
8. Blog plugins and widgets (badges)!! Wordpress, Blogger etc. ...
9. Online editing tools for pics, videos and audio (basic FX like cutting and auto-levels)! I guess this would make ipernity THE STATE-OF-THE-ART media sharing system!

I´m very happy to be here, because it is a very cool community.
My suggestion: It would be very nice, when I could here the shared music from a member the whole time I visit his/her site. Also when I look in the blog and the photostream.

I would really love to change the date uploaded, in order to be able to arange the photostream better.

also, more "latest photos/docs" from my contacts on my home page or at least the option "view more latest photos/docs from your contacts"

this function: "Would you like to publish this photo on another website?" should be also optional, not everybody wants to share their pictures, a lot of people do not want their pics all over the internet so it would be good if you had a choice.


also, just a small thing though:
when there is notes on a pic and you are on the main view page there is no other way to know, than going over the image. It would be good if there was some sort of caption that pointed this out
"there are notes on this image" or something of sorts.

I know this might sound like a lot, but its just suggestions, I am really happy here ;)

I also would appreciate to have the opportunity to change the Upload Date to change the Doc order of my stream.

For annotated pictures, there is a message juste under description : "This photo has notes. Move the mouse over the photo to see them".

Wishlist for ipernity

- Groups (yes, 2-3 weeks!, merci beaucoup)
- facilitate change of order of Albums
- put edit options in *one* place (also geotagging)
- the display of the whole globe for geotagged pictures is not very useful, maybe
just display the country
- make the profile more visible (at first menu level maybe)
- limit the number of displayed new pictures to a maximum (e.g. 5, better: variable, menu "Latest docs and posts")
- good communication with the users - what we are all looking for is a
*community* not a cheap place to host our pictures. So talk to us, show us
who you are and you will get unlimited support from us. (This forum is a very good idea, the communication with the users also very good)
- view of the *extended* network, like in the daily mails
- make better structure of explore pictures, maybe daily/weekly....
- colours should apply everywhere, not only in the start view

For the rest, the stability of the system and the functions are quite o.k. - good job!

Comme tout le monde, un costumization plus souple et encore plus avancé et qui n'est pas limité au homepage. Pas mal d'exemple sont déjà cité dans ce sens ( virb, j'aime bien aussi la customisation de smugmug).

Un user interface plus clean. Moins flickr like plus smugmug like ( www.smugmug.com ) où l'on ne se perd pas quand le nombre de photo ou de docs devient important.

Thank you for this thread! It would be great if ipernity would read IPTC tags, especially 'object name', 'caption' and 'keywords'. I put title, description and tags into these IPTC tags and have to retype them always, because they are not being read upon upload.

As well geotags within IPTC keyoword tags should be handled this way, i.e.
geotagged
geo:lat=
geo:lon=
inside IPTC keywords should be taken to place a photo on the map upon upload.

I really like the tags in Photoshop Elements, and want to import them during the upload.

I do also miss my IPTC-Tags that I created in Lightroom, they were imported into f***** but not when uploading with either iperUpload or via the web-interface. Also I would like to be able to determine the size of my pictures when uploading via web-interface.

I saw a number there only once at the beginning... Since then, it didn't display anything even when there were messages.

thats right, it never worked in my browser at all. i am using firefox 2.0.0.4 for mac.

1. There is this nice mini-slideshow on my home page (if I'm not logged in) It would be nice if I could embed this into a different web site.
2. It seems, that ipernity doesn't have an API yet, that allows third-party programs to access and change the data. Or does it? This would allow all kinds of third-party programs and "mashups".

We do have an API! We are going to document it before publishing. It's one of our priorities. Some plugins are still available (have a look at your Preferences/Third-party applications).

- Automatically detection of tags out of the IPTC tags of a photo
- Trackbacks for the blog
- Guest passes (posibility to invite people w/o ipernity account to see a specific album which is marked as "private")
- A link on the photopage that makes it possible to directly geotag the photo instead of opening the DocManager, put the photo in the batch, start geotagging...
- Longer overview of the discussion threads in "recent activity" and "your activity at others
- Collections would be a nice to have, but that's not urgent for me

On the other hand, I'm already very very happy with the services you are currently offering- thanks a lot for this great platform!

a Wish for view all sizes :
There should be a size between medium and original.
I suggest something about 1024px to 1280px width.

oh and another thing, it would be great to get the rss working properly. as of now the date shows as Thu, Jan 1, 1970 1:33
with the rss fixed it is also possible to get some wordpress plugins done ;)

Je n'ai pas trouvé de RSS pour les commentaires faits sur nos documents, je trouverais utile de pouvoir avoir un fil qui nous liste les récentes activités extérieures sur notre compte (principalement les commentaires, mais pourquoi pas les ajouts de tag..)

I know: It's the stuff we are used from flickr, sorry. But you can be sure: I am totally in love with you guys, because you extended the idea of sharing content. That's simply great.

* The option to just see 1 photo from each person of my network in the "Latest docs". If one person posts 6 (or more) photos you only see theirs.
* When there are multiple responses to your blog since the last time you logged in just see them all beneath each other.
* The "Activity" link is changed (eg bolded) to indicate that there is new activity in your stream.
* Move the Check out your activity at Others' link so that it is available at the top level under "My Space".
* Linked to the above, when you do look at "Your comments", show other peoples responses since yours underneath it, maybe just the last 10.
* Have a "Quote" link for the blogs, photo comments and groups. I make heavy use of the Greasemonkey script "flickrQuoter".

First of all, great job so far.
Here is my list:

1 - Groups - but make sure it is easy to manage, perhaps borrowing some ideas from the various greasemonkey scripts and make them native.

2 - Ability to define albums as a query (a la Dopiaza's set manager).

3 - Ability to define ordering of photos in stream besides chronological order. Changing the upload date/time is a poor way to achieve this...

4 - Allow replacing an existing photo with another file

For clarification: In case it's a bug, here is a screenshot of the difference between my own older and newer comments as I see it. The older comments have the reply link, but the newer ones have the edit link instead. Some (but not all) of my newer comments have all 4 links.

- change the upload date and time (first automatically with the date photo was taken, later free editable for sort reasons)

plus:

- permanent change of the layout of 'Your docs' ( Thumbnails • Mediums • Larges) in all tabs(!)
- free rearrange docs (not only sorting after date and time)
- changeable layout of the homepage (not only what I want to see but where the elements should appear and their properties)

I'm going to pipe up and put another vote in for IPTC/EXIF description, title, keyword tags to be imported on upload (saving duplication in entry).
Likewise for the geotag information to automatically place the photo on the map (on upload).

Maybe also the ability to upload a custom .css file to further customise your homepage / doc page, etc...

Interface option to allow the custom colors on the homepage to carry through to the album and photo pages (for that matter, carry through to all of the subsidiary pages).

I would like to set the small slideshow on my homepage (which is a great feature!!) to shuffle play, so that also older pictures get more attention (the newerst are shown there anyway)

Thanks for this topic ! It's great to ask the community to participate and bring ideas and wishes. I think it'll be of great benefit to everyone and especially to Ipernity.

As for my contribution, on top of many good ideas I've read above, I would like the blog part to be richer, with, for example, the possibility to add links to one's favs sites or friends' blogs, change the page layout... well more like "standard" blogs in fact.

As I wrote in my mail two days ago and as Vogelmann said before: A Creative-Commons-Search would be great! Thanks for your efforts!

Make some way of grouping albums. Or even better, just make an album a collection of either pictures or albums, at the same level. That way users can nest it as they see fit.

Yeah, sub-albums would be great. And putting the title of the discussion to the last comment-section as said before in emails (with the "title="blabla" - atribut) to see where the comment was posted you could see at the "Last comments" - section on profilepage.

Les groupes étant en préparation, j'aimerais bien que quand on enregistre les photo, les fichiers est de vrai nom. Genre [nom de l'auteur]_[nom de la photo]_date.jpg. Et puis la possibilité de faire des sous albums :-)

Pour le blog, la possibilité de tagger les billets, et de faire des catégories. voila voila.

Everything is almost perfect. Congrats! My Christmas wishlist:

1. Cliché du / Taken on gives only the possibility of precise date and time. It would be nice if we could give approximate dates for older photos without EXIF data (see F**r)

2. Friends/Family: I would like to be able to create more categories. I have friends from work and friends from other places ... I have the family of my girl friend and my own family ...

3. Guest links: A very good option of F**r were the guest links. You could "open" a private album (set) to certain people, even non members. If this could be implemented, point 2 (Friends/Family) is less needed.

4. I would welcome on the Profile page a space where you can indicate languages spoken/understood. Very good to know for the users, but good for the Iperny staff too. So they know which languages to add to the inferface.

5. A way to determine the order of ones albums, and nicer still, a way to arrange albums in other albums ("collections" in the F**r terminology).

6. A CC (Creative Commons) search.

First of all I'd like to tell you what a wonderful and outstanding job you are doing in making this the welcoming and comfortable place to refuge to from f*****.

I am sure, it must be quite overwhelming and surprising for you, to get this load full of requests and suggestions from all of us-
and you are sooooo friendly and polite as well, giving us even more space to transfer our pics from f*** to ipernity- you really rock!

My suggestion would be, to have a quite similar "favourite"- collective fiewing in square mode, as we had on this other site. Maybe 6 rows 6 collumns, to view the latest added favourites and to play with their appeareance. it is such great fun to arrange them by color, style or content!

And please, add the possibility to switch the ordering of the album view (not only the last uploaded album in first place- just drag n' drop to the place the album should be in).
This would be my wishlist so far.

I simply luv the idea of the blogs and videos and music to share- as i wrote before:

My top wishlist items are:

1. Automatic import of the EXIF/IPTC tags of a photo:
- keywords - preserved filename - description - title - copyright - author

2. Change upload dates for photos (or an alternative to chronological order for stream management)

3. Improved Album organisation:
- Sub-albums or equivalent to create more "Sets" within Albums
- Change the Album order (so new ones don't automatically appear first, etc.)


These are great ideas and get my vote:

- Any improvements to track comments I've made, that have been replied to etc. will be much appreciated; both in terms of seeing more and accessing these in a more direct manner.
- Replace this picture function
- Camera finder
- Languages spoken/understood on the user's Profile page
- More than 20 tags
- Hear the member's shared music on other pages; not only the main one
- Password protection for Albums/sub-Albums (for non-members also)

Après un bravo à l'équipe pour le boulot abattu, ma wishlist (qui reprend quelques éléments déjà cités) :

- possibilité de réorganiser les albums entre eux, les derniers créés n'étant pas nécessairement ceux qu'on veut mettre en avant. Et éventuellement même chose pour les documents (édition de la date d'upload)

- possibilité de réorganiser sa page (modules entre eux), et éventuellement de modifier des paramètres (affichage de n derniers documents du réseau ou de n derniers posts du réseau)

- affichage d'un flag (par exemple) qui permettrait de savoir s'il y a de nouveaux commentaires non lus dans son espace, ou de nouvelles réponses à des commentaires laissés chez les autres, sans passer par la page "activité". Un peu à la manière de la messagerie, pour résumer.

- la possibilité d'inclure des widgets/plugins dans sa page (fils de news, météo, ...). Un peu à la netvibes.

- la possibilité de masquer, dans la liste de ses documents, des documents qui sont destinés uniquement à illustrer un article du blog.

- une traduction automatique de l'allemand en anglais ;-)

One more thing: Posibility of looking for people in a map. So you can add new contacts by proximity

- RSS Feed for recent activity (really important and easy to implement!)
- change the sort order of recent activity from grouped by type to just by date (you have to scroll al ot to get all the recent activity right now)
- RSS for "submitted pictures by contacts"
- API
- Groups (of course)

On more idea: I suggest to merge in "Recent activity" "Comments" and "Favorites" or add "Favorites" to "In Brief"

I would appreciate if people I have blocked could NOT fave (vote for) my pictures. According to the message when I block someone, they should not be able to do ANYTHING in my space, other than looking at my public posts.

OK, I've read over a few post above and I think I agree with most of it. So my thought not mentioning some of the obvious and most written things:

• consolidate the layout a bit: currently there're many ways to get to a view things and others named confusingly similar; esp. the recent activity area needs a bit of cleanup
• speaking of recent activity I would like to have to be able to go into the past there, see comments of others on posts I commented on regardless if they are direct replies or not (but please as separate lists)
• clicking on my buddy icon calls my main site using my ID whereas every other link uses the named URL
• the links on the side of your own buddy icon are sometimes doing the same or something similar as the in the main bar but either the name is not distinct enough if they do something different or confusingly different if they will lead to the same page
• I'd like to be able to get feeds for virtually every list here: recent activity (in all varieties), posts of contacts, comments on an item
• I'd like to see small adjustments to the interface to make the site more distinguishable from the competitors, but please keep it simple
• a stable API
• a good compatibility layer to the flickr API to make integration of ipernity into existing applications easy
• replacement of docs
• changing dates of docs
• maybe reordering of docs
• ok, wishes and ideas for groups in another post ;)

OK, some things have been mentioned by others, maybe there's something new in it ;)

And keep the communication up! That's one reason we left the other site...

- Simplify the interface a bit more. I think you can merge the "Find docs/Find posts/Search for members" menu items in "Explore" into a simple "Search" option, for example.
- Don't allow too much layout customization. Ipernity may end up like that aberration called MySpace.
- Don't use flag icons to indicate languages. Flags represent countries, not languages. There are many countries that use the same language, and numerous countries that have more than one official language.
- Add the ability to block HTML code in comments.

If possible, it might be very cool and globally-minded to leverage one of the translation services like babelfish or google translations to translate comments. I'm not sure if any of them have an open api for you to leverage, but if possible, it would be very helpful for people like me who have only a small level of comprehension of most languages other than my native language, French and Spanish. I am thankful that most of my European friends on this site are generous with their English, but until I get an opportunity, I won't be proficient in German or Italian any time soon.

I recognize the translation services are often laughably incorrect in content and tone, and any translation offered should come with a huge caveat, but most of the time they give you chance to understand the basic message. This would save me copying and pasting comments into one of these services myself.


This would also need to be a preference that could be configured by users as many people wouldn't need or want it. I see a little row of flags, not unlike the one you have now, under comments, clickable - wait a second or tow - the translation appears. Since 99 percent of comments are short, it might not be that much overhead. I think this would be a first. It might also be hugely entertaining.

Great post, thank you for this opportunity, and thank you for listening!

1) I think the Docs menu under My Space (or under the username) should also show photos, audio, videos, blogs, and others - perhaps as an expanded or expandable menu. Alternatively, they should be one click away somewhere else - perhaps under the space that you are browsing (so, if I am at, say, Team Ipernity's, under the name I get the options mentioned above). Basically, it is a little frustrating waiting for a page to load (docs), only to have to load another page (photos or whatever).

2) A separate area or marker for people to post their own music - i.e. music they have made themselves. I think this would encourage that side of things to open up much more, as this would be like a much, much better 'Myspace' for musicians and photographers,artists, etc to meet. Also, the appropriate markers for the music to add Creative Commons licenses and suchlike. I, for one, will be uploading my music here eventually!

3) Could albums be nested like folders? That would work really well in some cases (for example, you take photos every Halloween, and have 5 years' worth, you can put them in one folder/album called 'Halloween' with each year available inside. I think nesting one deep would be enough.

4) Website/blog integration - there is a major need for this to encourage people to sign up for a pro account. Just a couple of simple tools - even something that just shows the last 5 photos or something, without the need for loads of messy Javascript, would work great for now. Or integrating the playlist for audio and video - anything that people can put on their sites to lure people over here.

5) Enough layout changes so that it doesn't resemble Flickr. I know this is not easy, and, in fact, Ipernity looks loads better than Flickr to me - but I think the strength in this site is that it offers a different service and community to Flickr, and appeals to a much larger range. Change the font, change the link colours, change something in the main white area to make it unique - looking. There are too many dumb comments floating around about how Ipernity is a Flickr rip-off. Let them see that it is not!

6) When groups come in (I'll add this to your other thread, if you like), try to make them different to that other photo sharing site that I mentioned above. I don't know how, exactly, but just different. (Maybe some safeguard against dumb-ass ideas like the '10 million photo pool' and stuff, where people just swamp the place).

7) Explain the terms and conditions a little more clearly. Is nudity allowed? Can I swear in comments? What is 'obscene' or 'otherwise objectionable'? Is there a safe/adult filter for those who want it? I have seen a couple of comments where people thought the terms and conditions here were too restrictive, but I don't believe that to be the case. Still, it could put some people off, as attention has been drawn to it in at least one post I came across. Personally, I am not concerned, as I don't take 'naughty' photos and I can always try not to swear...

8) With uploading 'other' docs, I think an option for text would be good - this would allow for short stories, poems, letters, etc. to be uploaded. I know (or guess) that we can already upload a .txt file, but it won't look as nice. There could be another option, like the blog, that would allow a cut 'n' paste type option, where the text can be previewed - but unlike the blog, without the date. This might be handy for people who want to share text with family, friends, or the wider world, or poets and writers to keep their work separate from their blog.

The guestbook idea is beautiful, the home pages are a lovely touch, the thumbnails/medium/large options on the photos pages are a great help, the community is one of the best I have come across, and the potential is really encouraging. It's already been said, but to add some weight, I'd like exif and iptc data such as title description, keywords and geodata imported into the photo page.

And please don't forget that some of us shoot film. It would be really nice if the exif data for camera is editable, so we can change that to show the camera we used and not the scanner.

I was about to say I'm quite content here and lots of stuff has already been mentioned, but I could think of one more thing that would be pretty important to me:

-> The option to allow/ disallow HTML in comments.

That whole "invitation to groups with a pic" thing got pretty much out of hand over there at... that other site, sometimes the pics posted in a comment were bigger than my original pic and, egocentric narcist that I am, I was not pleased about that. ;)

An indicator to show that a photo has already been geotagged.

DocManager => show details (an orange spot means the picture is geotagged)
DocManager => advanced search / Geotags / Not geotagged

* read Efix geotags and place the picture on the map
* correct the Date in the Usercast RSS / Atom feed ( always 1.1.1970)
* correct search in Doc Manager: eg. search for "aikido" in my stream returns only fotos with "aikido" in the title, but not the fotos tagged with "aikido".
* RSS Feed for recent activity

Sorry to add more after my last post, but I have also spotted the following points:

1) The Doc Manager search does not work properly. Photos that are tagged with a word or phrase are not always found. I tested this by going back to my docstream, and, sure enough, I found photos, with tags, that Doc Manager did not find. The photos had been uploaded at least 24 hours earlier, and in fact newer ones were found successfully, while some older ones were not.

2) The playlist should appear on the 'Audios' page.

3) When you go straight to a blog, it is not obvious (to newcomers, at least) that the person has photos, etc. as well. The photos/audios/videos/other tabs should perhaps include 'blog' as well, and the tabs (or similar) be available on the blog page.

4) In the 'My Profile' page, how about a box for 'Favourite Photographers and/or Artists' as well as the Actors/Directors thing? Seems more appropriate for the photo sharing side of things! Also, more interesting to search for people inspired by Diane Arbus, Weegee, Witkin, whoever...
