Placez vos souhaits ici / Post your wishes here

Tuesday June 26, 2007 at 05:06PM

Dear all, while waiting forums, I suggest you to post here your wishes about improvements and new features for ipernity. This thread aims to help us to target your needs better. I'm about to open a special thread for Groups, so it's not necessary to talk about it here ;-) I propose to use English but feel free to use your own language if English is not okay for you / Christian.
*01/07/07 update * you'll find a summary of the first hundred posts in page #2

First of all: this is a great community, I'm enjoying it a lot! Thank you for your excellent work!

For now my biggest wish is to be able to rearrange the albums in the organzier. Could you implement that...and perhaps very soon? ;-) Pleeeaaaaseee? :-))) Merci beaucoup! :-)

P.S. I just noticed something else: on the right-hand side of the pages it says "more informations". It should be "more information" (without "s"). Thanks!

Difficult to give a timeline. We don't want to disappoint members with delays. We are fosused on groups, API documentation, translation in 4 other languages and technical back-office. It'll take the main part of our activity during this summer. But we'll try to find time to implement some new "small" features or improvements. Annoucements are already made for IPC tags import, big sizes of pictures and other sweeties.

The ability to hide your own docs in the netwide-search. If I search networkwide for photos of my interest I don't want to view hundreds of my own photos then- I already know that I had them in my own stream. Instead I like it to view if _another_ user had uploaded photos with that topic - without clicking throw pages which show just my own photos in the results.

And a translation - issue: On the english- pages which counts the visits of a document the backlink under the title was labeled with "← revenir" - on the right side of this page the same function was labeled with "← back to post". :-)

Edit: The ability to include the postings of your existing blog (maybee a wordpress-category) instead of using the one which was used here. So I could post to my main blog topics which are related to ipernity and they appear automatically here in my blog. Maybee via RSS?

Kiezkicker replies:
And the ability to add just a part of another user as contact, maybee a few albums. So you could subscribe to another users albums - not to all, just to a few of them. If you don't like to see all photos of an user but a few of them (with a special interests, maybee soccer) it's hard to track them if you add all people who had soccerphotos as contact. Your account would be flooded with hundreds of uninteresting photos...
This would be easier if you could add them as contact and choose what you would be tracked in their account.
Yes, you could subscribe to the feed of this albums but that's not the same like doing that inside of ipernity.

A link to geotagging your doc at the docpages if it isn't allready tagged. Maybee under "More information" between "1. Taken on (...)" and "2. (...) visit" so it looks alike the following:
More information
1. Taken on Saturday September 16, 2006 at 15:25 (edit)
2. in somewhere (edit)
3. 0 visit

This would force (or, if you are in friendly mood, help) people to geotagging their docs.

Hi Christian,
I would like to add my vote to the "01 Network : option : only one doc viewed per member" feature. It would be a great improvement to have that because right now whenever a member adds a lot of photos at once, the entire view is "spammed" by only that member. With only one photo per member it is easier to track who has posted new photos and which members' new photos I've already seen....
This is a reply to Christian Conti's comment.

A new killer-feature:

Panorama-support:

If you tag your photo with a special tags (iperpano, sperhe, horizontal, vertical etc.) it will be shown as a panorama in Ipernity by using a flash-applet (you can license that kind of stuff). All the pano-freaks out there would be happy to find a platform to show their stuff to a wider community without any coding and external viewers. It would be a real feature to get some new members.
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
forteller replies:
Wow, I second that. I don't take panorama pictures myself, but that's a really good idea. You'd also have to be able to embed the panorama in different sizes, of course, and make it possible to see the picture itself without Flash! I wouldn't make this a very high priority, though, just another cool feature that would make this website stand out from the competitors even more..

2. Saved searches - a sort of pseudo group feature that refreshes searches based on particular tags. It would be nice to have somewhere on my home page to display these searches so others can see them too.
3. Exclude one's own pictures from searches.
4. Facebook application to allow my pics here to be seen via my Facebook page (like this one for F****r)

OK, two more suggestions:

1. Suggested changes for the "Latest replies to your comments"- section:
The text "in reply to your comment: (added 16 hours ago)" should link to the permalink of my comment, not back to the "Latest replies to your comments" cause this was the page where I allready being. :-)
Actually it's like the following:
----------------
in reply to your comment: (added 16 hours ago)

Have it send yesterday, too.
[...]
...............
Would be better if it's changed to
in reply to your comment: (added 16 hours ago)

Have it send yesterday, too.
---------------
(and this time it wasn't a privoxy-fault by me, hehe)

2. Suggestion for the detailpages of the docs:
If you view a doc you see the docs next behind it. But you have no option to switch to the thumbnail-overview - you could just change to the first page of the docs in the album - and if an album contains lots of docs it would be nice if you could switch to the paged thumbnailview (and see more then just the seven pics around the actual viewed one. Just like fli**r with the l.yimg.com/www.flickr.com/images/en-us/context_view_page_out.gif?v1 which you could see on the single-photopage under the album in which it contains.

i saw the question for this new feature above, but it's really, really important ! please provide a "replacing" or "reloading" function for docs . sometimes you see something distubing only after you uploaded a pic, you would like to change and replace the old one, so it stays in the old place and you can keep the conversation on that too. I cast another vote for "Activity : more history (more displayed docs, all comments…)"

I'd also think it could be nice if the "About you" text box on the same page would be promoted differently. That it contains information that the ipernity system would use in turn to try and promote my account to other members. So, it could extract keywords from the text or e.g. when displaying somebody in the "extended network" it could use the information the member uses to promote himself to promote this member for him so that he/she gets selected by even more members.
I think the connection by movies/music and books hardly works out and I never really would search a contact that way. Interests is a little stronger band already, but there are just words there and I think a human readable text says much more about somebody than a few Nouns of interests.

I also think that there could be a different kind of groups on ipernity. That e.g. an "automatic group" defines a set of rules (contains and not contains certain tags) and pictures which fit the rules are automatically added (ideally there'd be a system that would auto-tag the pictures, but okay that's too far into the future). Manual groups could still exist and consist of hand picked documents.
The worst thing on any site such as Flickr or ipernity, for me, is that I have to promote my content so that others view it. I hate to do that and I feel that the site could do that for me by inserting it into appropriate places or otherwise making it accessible to interested people by means of automatic grouping or automatic contacting. On the other hand, if I don't promote it, nobody views it, so what's the purpose for me? Is ipernity just a marketplace or is it more than a marketplace? E.g. take last.fm which has a "Neighbourhood" feature that it selects people that listen similar music to you (similarity here is defined by the system and not me having to search for certain tags) and I've found one or the other nice artist that way. I don't know if I had found them otherwise as searching is such a tedious thing to do.
I feel ipernity is already going in such a direction to some extent.

I'm always looking for news about the activity problem. reading "that's already done" kills my hope, that a change is in sight. at the moment it's impossible to keep a discussion on the run if you don't get informed about the answers of others.
what's the need of this "check out your activity at others"-button? it just shows me, what I've written minutes before .. and I'm able to remember that. but I would really like to know, what happens later ... even days or weeks later. I'm not only interested in talking to the photographer himself (with help of the reply button). it's much nicer to get into dialogue with different people who are sharing the same pic. at the moment this reply button is the only possibility to see if there is an answer to a comment, but the discussion gets disrupted and I don't like it at all.

another thing is: where do the favs go to? I would like to have a look at older favs, but I can only see the latest ones. am I too stupid?

but I don't give up and try to be patient, because the rest is fine for me and I feel more and more at home here.
thanks so far. :-)

I have another request:

on other sites, like vox.com you can chose to share your pictures not only with "friends" or "family" but also with your whole network or "neighborhood" which is a good feature if you want to share things with your neighbours but not with people who are not registered to ipernity (it would also be a good way for you guys to gain more members ;) )

Sometimes I want to share things with more people than my friends/family, but less than the whole world, sometimes I want to share things with all my network, but not people outside of ipernity.
I hope this makes sense and you can consider my request :))

Just a stupid idea for a community feature... Maybe this will be void once groups are around: some events page, where you post dates for meetups. Preferrably order-able by place. Maybe some "show all members within X km" so you can invite them to events? Probably not a brilliant idea, but something in that direction would be nice.

One of the reason I like ipernity is the really good community :-)

dear IP staff,

on another site I saw the possibility to add a note (very long one) at a
photo. This was not a tag, comment or note on the picture and it was reserved for the writer only, not visible to anyone else on the network.
This would be very useful (for me at least), when wanting to remember some
use, example, inspiration etc etc of that photo. It could be combined with
the 'favorite' photos only, to save space on the server. [E.g. an IP-member is
going to make a series of shots for my string quartet and some of her photos
here I like to comment upon until we meet. Now I'm adding tags, but still
it's not enough and other people may be mislead. Adding as favorites is also
not a good solution, though I use that too. A long private note would be
ideal and good for creative interaction, maybe for the 'pro' accounts?]
Thanks again!

the main function of an 'explore' page is of course to give a general impression of what is happening inside the boat... So I wouldn't really expect a 'live' page where things 'really happen' as it is now.
What could be done is that IPy requests it's members to propose (maybe every month?) one, two, three photos they consider 'their best' or representative enough to be exposed 'on the explore'. These photos then, don't stay on the page, but are shown as a slide show.
This should be the best choice, since nobody can say that they are ignored and get a psychic wound :-DDD (and that chatters etc get clicks and publicity)
With a click a visitor can then chose to see what is the most viewed photo or the one with most votes or comments (based on activity numbers). This can show 'where the life/action is'

Don't you think they will probably miss our new comments in this old list?
I'm afraid so ;-)

But I am really sad this hasn't been fixed yet, after all this time and all these MANY requests to follow more than 20 comments ...

Ulrich replies:
Haha, taking into account that the lack of the requested feature might actually cause them to miss it, yes :-D

I agree, it is a pity, especially as from a technical point of view it should be comprarably easy. There is nothing else to do than to be patient and to remind it here and then I guess..

Ipernity seriously lacks ways to surf new photographers. i would *love* to see more variety and turn over on the "what's hot" page.

A start might be a simple algorithm developed that discounts comments made by the creator. Almost every item posted there, half the comments are written by the creator. Nice, but not *hot*.

I think that, in the meantime, we can try to use what we have to implement missing functionality; i have posts on my blog on this subject, all titled "Photostream of the Day" and I started a group:

1)What I really would like to see is the possibility to post documents that are public BUT do NOT appear anywhere outside my space (semi-private). Some things posted are either simply not of intrest to those outside (seemingly) or must be seen in a certain context to make sense (think of a comic strip or a "follow up"). That would provide a possibility to control a little bit what you "want" people to see.
2) As for general viewing I would like an option (as preference) to reduce the paging when looking at docs and and especially contacts.
Also a reason for this: I have no broadband Internet connection and I do not expect to get one soon. So when I want to look at someones photos it always takes long flipping from page to page. If I could request the first 50 or so photos I could walk away for three minutes, get a coffee, and come back and enjoy. People with broadband could also benefit from a faster general overview after the "most recent and most unintresting 30 wedding pictures".
But in general I am happy here. Keep up the improvements!

I think the only strength Flickr has over Ipernity now are in the organise photos area and the explore area. I find Ipernities "what's hot" area too static and it really doesn't change all that much. Flickr's explore "last 7 days" with the ability to refresh new photos makes for a very interesting portal to new photography. I'd really like to see Ipernity come up with some fresh and exciting ways for us to sample the photography of other's excellent pictures.

In all other respects I prefer Ipernity, well done!

It would be awesome to be able to order your photo stream by date taken/date uploaded; the tool that imported my photos from Flickr has minced the chronology of my photos and I have no continuity of viewing at the moment. Very distressing for me ;-)

Please could you add guest passes for sets.

A Flickr feature that was very useful was to make a set consisting of photos that were marked general viewing and family / friends and then create a "guest pass" to the set. This is a link you can send via email to family (like Aunt's and Grannies) who won't be computer literate enough to register on ipernity however you'd still like them to be able to see the pictures.

Guest passes can then be expired at a later stage.

Please give us the ability to search for media when we want to add photos to a blog posting. It is very time consuming to have to page through all your photos looking for the one you want to add to the blog posting.

Hi, as a new comer I find Ipernity fulfilling all my needs except one... the inability for non member to post a comment in the blog (I'm not talking about photo commenting).

Apart that i love this place ;)

www.flickr.com/search/advanced
2) Mettre une page "Creative Commons" comme :
www.flickr.com/creativecommons
3) Créer un organizer similaire à :
www.flickr.com/help/organizr

Sometimes I like to print a blog entry. This is very difficult. One as to copy and paste it to an editor, and then change different settings and delete a lot. A print option in the blog would be a nice ammelioration!

DocManager is bloated and overambitious. It constantly crashes Firefox on my PC and it won't run on my EeePC at all, which is a shame because that's the machine I want to use to upload photos when I travel.

It's embarrassing to have dozens of unrotated photographs on my site (imported from Flickr), but I have other things to do than sit at the computer and rotate them singly by hand.

Please cut the damn thing down to size or introduce a simpler interface to bulk edit photographs from a particular album/day/tag quickly and efficiently.

Hi ipernity-Team. Do you know zooomr? They have "smart sets". You can define sets by tags (also in combination of tags) and these sets update themselves if there are new photos with the corresponding tags. This feature would be great on ipernity.

Hello team! I have a question for you.

I was wandering about a place (a group, some docs in your user space), where users could read some data like guinnes or Ipernity historical data:

eg:

Guinnes: user with more docs in his/her space is xxxx with 23245354 photos/videos/articles

Guinnes: user most viewed is: xxxx or "rookie ipernity users 2007" (users who published tons of doc)

Ipernity hystorical data: first Ipernity user or 1000th user... or, Ipernity reach the ammount of 90 tera byte of docs published since his born.

I think you've understand what I'm speacking about.

I'ts an idea or a request that I would have share with all of you.

Waiting for an idea.
