Are there any features of the groups that you can let us know about or will it be a straight clone of flickr groups?

From what I have seen of ipernity so far you will do a better job of groups than flickr.

I would like to see the ability for groups to have "associations" with other groups, like users have contacts.
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Michal Kasprzak replies:
That sounds interesting Tux. Would you imagine them to be generated automatically via group tags or added manual by admins (like contacts)?
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Kiezkicker replies:
IMHO that must be manual. Some guys here have a little aversion against automated things. ;-) And a group-owner knows it better than a machine which group would be fit and which not even if they used the same tags - maybee _many_ groups used "germany" as a tag but that´s not a sufficient reason to put them together (exp. without no manual room to change it, urgs? ;-)
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
Michal Kasprzak replies:
I can't see where that comes from :P Seriously though, you're right the admins will do their job much better then any machine.

What interests me though is in what way would this feature be useful for the group's members e.g. would it only serve as a series of links to related groups or maybe members could view a feed of discussions taking place in related groups.
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
David de Groot replies:
A tree view of associated groups would be handy. As would the RSS feed of a group hierarchy.

So for instance (and I'll use Tux's example):

Brisbane
-* Brisbane Meetup
--* Brisbane Grid Project
-* Brisbane Wildlife
-* Brisbane History

etc...

Michal Kasprzak replies:
I think Ipernity team could take the rss feed idea even further. What if users would be able to put groups they are members of into sets just like photos. Each sets page could show all the group's pools and discussions all on one page. This could be quite interesting and useful especially if someone in a member of multiple specialized low traffic groups.

Good news!
Think about ipernity-groups - it is not necessary to clone flickr-groups. Some things there are annoying

That feature will go sky rocket. Only one I realy miss (compared to flickr).

So I'll stay here.

Groups. Yay!

But please do not duplicate Flickr-style groups. As someone said above, they can be quite annoying.

How about creating an admin setting for group member limits? How about an admin setting for not allowing photos added to a group unless they are tagged with whatever the admin allows? And even further, how about a setting for limiting membership to a certain geographic region (determined by the user's city/state/province etc)?

This site rocks, keep up the great service and work. I'm inviting everyone I know! :)

Sounds good. Great work!

And since im a ex-flickr could you, when you have the time - dont stress :)
Make some way of grouping albums ? Or even better, just make and album a collection of either pictures or albums, at the same level. That way users can nest it as they see fit.

Thanks and keep up the good work

mart-npro says:
hm ... I don't want to disturb all the euphoria for "groups" but in my opinion I'm just really happy that groups don't exist yet here.
For sure, the "groups" function can be a great feature but as seen in other famous communities (don't want to use the F*r word ;) pictures are spread around in all kind of groups and some superlarge groups with hundreds of new pictures per day without a special "theme" exists.
So I'm really afraid that this "group flooder mentality" will also settle in here (I even don't want to think of "group invitations" or "groups awards" in my pictures comments ... could become a nightmare).
Maybe just my opinion ...

Some equivalent of groups functionality would be nice. But I also disliked childlish behaviours in F*r groups.

Finish, what you started, ipernity, and do it better than this other little picture community... flocker or whatever it's called ;)
