Dear friends, please stay!
I do not believe it is helpful to panic, escape from Ipernity, and build refugee communities on other platforms.
In order to stay in contact with each other you do not need to escape; you should better stay here where we already have this great community and these contacts.
To escape at this point is not rational: It is weakening Ipernity. And it weakens our own community. You are already about to split onto different platforms.
I am not saying above on the basis of hope or heroism. I am saying this because of the following rational:
- If the owners of Ipernity would be working on a solution of the commercial situation (and why should they not do so?) then we must assume that these discussions and negations must be highly confidential and must not be shared. To share such information publicly might even be illegal for the company and their officials.
- Whilst these potential discussions and negotiations must legally and commercially be a secret to the public we as members can only strengthen the position IP's and our own position as a community if we stay here. Escape will destroy our community and weaken IP's position.
- In the meantime we can continue to enjoy our community rather than splitting it; and we can help IP by joining Eric Desjours' constructive working group www.ipernity.com/group/2260604 "Proposals for Saving Ip" and contributing to innovative ideas. This way we will help Ipernity to have a stronger position in negotiations and we might finally help ourselves to stay together here.
- During this time we can also have constructive conversations where to move together in the worst case. This is better for our community than escaping into different directions.
Lets stay together!

Thanks for your com.

Perhaps that's because you've failed to appreciate why, at least in the case of the ones I've set up, they've been established.
I'm not saying anyone should quit ipernity or that they should migrate to any one site. The whole point of them is to create a forum where people can muster, look at what options are out there, and find a new home that suits each of them individually if and when ipernity closes.
If you really want to apportion blame for the "panic" then that must surely lie with Team Ipernity who have not only made this announcement, but who have failed to engage fully with the community in the past over how to secure the long term future of this site.
I believe you only joined from Panoramio recently and so weren't active here in 2015 when I wrote my open letter to the team, which sought to shine a light on the fears that many were harbouring: the so-called .
If you had been around then, you would know that this is a situation that has been brewing for a considerable time and that many people have tried and failed to work with the site owners to secure the long term future of ipernity.
So, please don't criticise people for looking at where they might go next, or for that matter for deciding that this news is the final straw as far as they are concerned.
As for Eric's group I have joined that and am happy to work and assist in any way that I can as I love ipernity and do not want it to fail, but I am also a realist and have personal experience of trying to point this sinking ship in the right direction.
Sorry if this sounds abrupt, but I found your remarks upsetting, albeit they appear to have been formed without knowing the full story.
Kind regards
PAUL
cp_u club has replied to autofantasia clubI did not want to blame you or anybody else. I apologize if you felt like this and if I upset you. This was not the intent. The intent was to analyze which alternatives are most rational at this point of time. In this regard we might have different views. I respect yours.
Best regards, Claus-Peter

As it says the English version will be posted tomorrow.
And even if we wanna go right now, what is our alternative, one night i was surfing for couple of hours and didnt found anything even similar.
and will indeed stay until the end, whenever that might be. But I do have to
say that criticism to those of us for example who have set up and run many
groups here and have decided to close them down, is not a negative response
to the news last Thursday, more action to protect members whose images are
posted in groups and felt the need for them to feel secure that the site would not
be taken over by those who did not have the best interests at heart of the site.
I have done this with my groups ... to reduce the opportunities for this to happen.
Alarmist ? no .. deserting a sinking ship ? no ... just being sensible. Many have
said leave groups and photos and just let them disappear naturally if the site
closes down ... I do not believe that that is good practice. I continue to post
images and shall do until the end ... and I hope the site can be saved but
have many mixed feelings about that happening. I have to say that I agree
in part with autofantasia ... the team have not addressed offers from members
to support by way of increased subscriptions .. and the latest influx from
the closed pano site ... I do believe under the financial state of the site, then
a nominal fee should have been made to help secure the site in the interim.
It seems no one listened ... but of course if the wheels were in motion .. then
they would not listen would they ?
J'ai lu attentivement votre texte... Conclusion : vous avez parfaitement raison.
Carnets d'adresses :

Propositions pour la sauvegarde :
www.ipernity.com/group/2260604
I'm not sure you can appreciate the time investment it takes to preserve thousands of photos. Even if not for the sake of them being a backup .... For instance, many people add lots of info. into description fields -- info. that they spent time researching, mind you --- which would double the time it would take to clone that image elsewhere. So, yes, they panic, because the ipernity admins. were too lackadaisical to inform. its members sooner about their intentions to get out of the business. If they had told members they were looking to sell or honestly disclosed the state of their business in a timely manner, people wouldn't be so panicked now because they would've had more than 30 days to find a new hosting site and/or download the data they needed from this site. I don't blame people who, like me, have over 5 thousand images to find a new home for or, unlike me, are finding this is their only backup to their whole body of work (which is foolish on their part, I will admit.).... To give you an idea, when I changed my home base from Flickr to here, it took me about 3mos. to fully re-upload all my stuff and get it all sorted into a usable grouping -- and now I have almost twice that to work with.
As for saving the site... People just aren't going to rally around someone who hasn't been here that long, sorry. You have to understand the community of people here and the idiosyncrasies involved in working with folks from so many diff't places in the world. Ideally, this site needs to stay in the EU for best results...
Those "refugee sites" are actually more beneficial than harmful.... People can stay informed. Not everyone who is on those other sites is a deserter --- most still have a foothold here and will be riding the ship to the bottom of the sea (as the saying goes). But they have to find a place to preserve their work, too, and figure out how to properly use said site. Flickr, especially, for the first timer is a bear to work around. Other sites are simpler, but all require an investment of time. These folks are looking for a lifeboat and if this site or its interface can be saved somehow, I'm sure most of them will come back or follow it to its new location online.
The people who need to be pushed the hardest to safe this site are the admins. themselves. They obviously just want out.... If you want to save the site, they need to be convinced, somehow to part with the source code for it and offer THAT up for sale or merger into an existing site that is similar. A site like 23HQ would be an ideal place.... It needs a better interface -- thought theirs is fairly functional -- and photo hosting isn't their financial sustenance so they have the resources to run a site like this.... This code is stable, so, they pretty much would just need to absorb it or integrate it with their own. This is where people's focus needs to be.... The domain and all that isn't what makes this site what it is.... It's the interface that's unique. I think people wouldn't even be up-in-arms about the shut down so much if they had a similar place to go to --- well, that and more than 30 days during the Christmas Holidays to get there, too.
My 2 cents ;)
LutzP club has replied to Fizgigso, if iper will survive, they also have to live with me in the future... :-)
if not - i'm prepared...
another point is: what does it mean to continue, if possible? if it means that nothing changes, iper will be soon at the same point again as it is now... in the last years the staff was more and more far away from the members, but the members have shown, since the beginning, that they want to support, that they want to be an active part, that they're open to take responsability, but the team was distanced more and more. i don't know any community with members like we have here and the team should be open for this resource, more than it was over the last years.
the administration must be closer to the members and their interests, their ideas and their support and must be more communicative. if this doesn't change, it's better to have the closure, imho...
As long as I am not convinced, that IP ist financially sound and has a long term perspective I will keep my refugee account at Flickr I have established immerdiately after that blogpost. May be I even like it there and stay for good. And that would be not my fault!
I will stay here to the end but meanwhile I feel free to make contingency plans and that is an account at Flickr.
I think the post of Dec. 1st was premature and utterly stupid!
PS: and please, do not call me deserter or traitor or undertaker or whatever, that is simply not fair and I had all that before when I came from Panoramio to Ipernity
cp_u club has replied to LutzP clubnobody called you a "deserter or traitor or undertaker or whatever". All these words came from you, I did not introduce or use them, and I would never do so because of my respect for you.
But I have a different opinion regarding rational scenarios for the community.
Let's be clear: we all love this community which for many ex-Panos like you and me emerged to become a better place and community. But for this very reason we have a competition of ideas how to move forward and save most of this community's value after this sad and disappointing announcement of the commercial state and the presumptive future of the company Ipernity.
I have the highest respect for everybody who takes part in this search for the best of this community. I have the highest respect for you because you are really trying to do the best.
But please respect vice versa that I have a very different opinion how to try to save this valuable community in this really sad and difficult situation of the company which runs this "resort" that gives us shelter.
My analysis above says that it harms this community and its home if we build three or four different new homes at different locations (companies!) before we even know whether a collaps or destruction of our current home will happen or can be prohibited by the contributions of our common ideas and actions and/or by third parties.
I just do not think it would be rational to try defending a castle or house by leaving it and being absent. I firmly believe it distracts the energy of our community at a moment while uniting this energy would be a very powerful weapon.
And in case the worst case would turn true: I firmly believe it would then be early enough to move. What does it make so urgent to move right now? I don't understand the hurry! Who's advantage is this hurry other than Ipernity's enemies and competitors?
There is nothing more urgent than the defence of our existing community and home. Particularly because everybody confirms that the currently chosen new destinations are not at all the promised land.
With my highest personal respect for your great intents, your different and diverse ideas, and your enormous efforts,
Sincerly Claus-Peter
don´t give up dreaming ;)))))
Schönen Tag Euch!
Hier jetzt dann sowas.

cp_u club has replied to diedjeWir bauen unter Stress alle mal einen Fehler. Welcome back to the discussion.

bonsai59 club has replied to cp_u club"I expect info either Friday or Saturday (at the latest) re: Survey results".
However, this does mean that there will be a lot of people looking for a new home for their photos so perhaps this will present an opportunity for those of us who are trying to save ipernity to exploit?
Here's the full announcement as posted on Facebook:
Thanks to Roger Dodger for initially drawing this to my attention! :)
Good morning/afternoon,
We are still in discussions with Ipernity S.A. re: the future of this site and its transfer. Negotiations are ongoing to protect the best interests of the members. At the same time we are investigating crowdfunding options so we can take the next step when negotiations are concluded.

I remain confident and optimistic there will be a successful restructuring of the Ipernity platform. Because of this, I remain active commenting, moderating in groups requiring this activity and recently posted an article that took time and research, not to mention getting some of my photos I took over the last 10 years and putting them together to present in the article. I would not put in this time and effort if I thought the platform would shut down and everything would be lost.
It is my strong belief that the new Ipernity will be a vibrant and viable platform with a bright, long-term stable future with a loyal membership base ensuring a stronger and more viable platform.
