Let the Show Begin
Taken from the gardens above Birnbeck Pier in Weston super Mare. Steep Holm island can be see on the horizon catching the first rays of the sunset. So take your seats and let the light show begin.
I have added 'Let the Show Begin' by Bonnie Tyler

Staxigoe Harbour - HBM!
Taken at Staxigoe Harbour, near Wick, Caithness, Scotland on a beautiful day when the blue of the sky almost merged with the colour of the sea.
Staxigoe is from the Norse 'gja or geo' meaning inlet and 'stakkr' meaning stack or rock, thus inlet of the stack. It is an attractive and well cared for little harbour as can be seen by the weather vane and bench painted in jaunty blue and white.
Staxigoe dates back to at least 1878 when in featured in the first edition Ordnance Survey map. It was once the largest herring salting stations in Europe but went into decline with the construction of a larger port in Wick just a coupld of miles East of here.
Nowadays a set of steps lead down to this pretty harbour where there are just a couple of small boats, seen beyond the bench here. The massive 'stack' or rock of which the top is visible on the left of the picture has an old winch nearby and picnic tables painted in the same blue as in the shot.
The gentle slope out to the Noth Sea makes it a popular place for swimmers.
As a nod to the herring salting history of the place I have added a link from Vision Thing which is a song about a fishing community near Wick and is called 'Silver Darlings' (Herrings were of course known as silver darlings)

Comfort and Corrosion
Captured at Portpatrick
I thought the bench was a bit quirky and liked the colours of the rusty anchor
I have added a song from Elvis Costello and Rusty, - the Resurrection of Rust, called 'I’m Ahead If I Can Quit While I’m Behind'

Distant Bench
Captured at the Isle of Whithorn, possible the earliest town in Scotland and an important place for pilgrims to St Ninian's Chapel. Whithorn is part of Dumfries and Galloway, formerly known as Wigtownshire
I was attracted to the lone bench on the clifftop in the distance and it's view of the sea, and it seems someone else was heading in that direction. Any ideas who that might be?!!
My bench for HBM is viewed from a distance and I have therefore added the song 'From a Distance' as my musical link, performed here by Bette Midler

A Fyne Bench View
Loch Fyne captured from above Tarbert on a lovely Autumn day. The slipway just visible on the left hand side is where the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry departs for the Cowell Peninsula and the bench provides seating whilst waiting for the ferry, and gives a nice viewpoint for watching boats entering and leaving Tarbert harbour and marina.
The PiP is of a part of the harbour itself taken a little earlier in the afternoon and in better light.
If you can excuse the pun I have added a song which is a cover of the old Chiffons song called
'One Fine Day' sung here by the Carpenters

Sleepy Latheronwheel Harbour ( 3 x PiPs)
Captured at a picnic area at Latheronwheel, Caithness, Highlands, Scotland. Latheronwheel is a sleepy little harbour and a nice place to sit and enjoy the view and maybe have something to eat. That is of course unless it is your 'Last Meal'
With tongue in cheek I have added a song by 'Asleep at the Wheel'
called 'Last Meal'

Bandstand (PiP)
Captured at Blake Gardens, Bridgwater, Somerset. The old bandstand sadly sees little use these days and is in need of repair and decoration. It used to be so nice to sit here and listen to bands playing whilst enjoying the sunshine and gardens.
The PiP is of the flower bed with walkway through the park on the left of the picture. On the other side of the wall is the River Parrett.
I have added a song by Aha. Here is ' The Banstand'
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvy4h-DXFZ0
and the bandstand needs fixing so here is 'Fix You' and a live performance by Coldplay and Ed Sheeran
